This is 100% wrong.

I will describe "full swing" to clarify.....

Going after the ball with 100% backswing and follow through.
No PGA-A Pro will advocate for doing that with wedges.

2 Amateurs are better off hitting as much club as possible off tees. Very few golfers are as long as they think they are. Drivers have the largest sweetspot and the greatest room for error.
3. Percentages of up and downs are better even from rough nearer to the greens than they are from fairway approaches 150y and out.
4. Nothing impacts score as much as the prevention of three putting. Lag putts are critical. Get the ball close!

The whole though process is wrong !

Well, maybe #4 is partially correct.

The longer the shaft & the "steeper" the club face, the less margin for error.

Nor is that what Goalie & I are suggesting.

By full swing, my (& probably our) definition is know +/- 5 yards what you can consistently hit every lob wedge, pitching wedge, 9,8 & 7 iron.

These are you approach clubs.

I'm sorry, you are making zero sense.

YMMV.

It is great to know your yardages with every club, especially your wedges and short irons. Wedges need to be used consistantly at a swing LESS THAN 100% of full.
What you may want to call "full" with a wedge (Pelz or Utley methods) are not equal to full with long and mid irons. That could be the difference in our definitions.

If you take the time to look at statistics gathered from amateur golfers from companies like Arccos and the like it is sound data. Teaching Pro's know it and will share it.

Read what I said above, a full swing with any short club, is not the same a full swing with your D through 5 iron.

A full swing is the swing you use to hit your pitching wedge (5 yards +/-) consistently.

I can be consistant in distance for thirds or quarters of swings as well. We are discussing "full" swings here. Nobody should give a "full" swing with wedges with any similarity to a "full" swing with a long or mid iron.

I’m not sure what you guys are arguing exactly but I never full swing any of my wedges.

I go up a club and hit less than 100%.

I don’t know if that’s right or wrong but it works for me.

Maybe it's my terminology.

Maybe overlay full club, where I say full swing.

Then simply say "full club!" wink

Full club wedges are not "gas pedal to the floorboard" swings!

Yes, see my above reply.

Even with driver, my "full swing" is not 100% of what I can actually swing it,

My full swing, is "the" swing I can control the club best with.

I used a “Lob” wedge for half a year. That was the only wedge where I could take a full swing and send a high arcing shot into a green.

Then I got the yips with it. I sent it straight into my spare golf bag, along with the rest of the deplorable putters and irons I once liked.

There are PLENTY of times to go "full swing" with a driver, fairway metal or hybrids/long irons! Plenty!
Not saying everyone should!

I use a 64* and I love it. My favorite club out of sand.

Golf is a funny game, pretty much all the recent advice in here is both contradictory and right. Depending on your game. Yes, some will benefit most from hitting driver after driver on the range, some will benefit most from wedge after wedge.

If you, for your game, really wants to know how to improve you first have to know where you're losing shots. It's really pretty simple to start, on each hole, record the following:
- Fairway hit (in "no" then did you miss left/right)
- Green hit in regulation (for bonus points record length of shot in and distance from pin/center of green)
- # of putts on the hole
- Chip? Did you get up/down

Start there, tells you where you are losing shots, if you aren't hitting greens, why is that? Missing fairways or distance control or direction control?
To many putts?
When you miss greens, how often do you get up/down

Find the problem, then the solution

I mark down +100, -100, and putt.

Tally that up when you’re done and it reveals much.
