I had several of my guns and some ammo stolen at Public Storage in Austin, TX where I had them, I think it was an inside job as one of their employees were putting mice poison inside the units and he must have seen my gun cases, and I had found documents strewn near one of my boxes, don't remember doing that myself in an earlier visit. They broke in through the wire ceiling, cutting it. Most of the guns were older models that were on the obsolete side as the mfg companies have new and nicer models out now, so not that big of a loss. Will file insurance claim tomorrow.
I had to rent a storage place as Austin, TX is one of the most expensive places to buy a house or rent an apartment in the country, so renting a room in a house. Planning to move far away in a few months, not worth it in a liberal town with greatly increased crime.
In the meantime I need to find out what these older guns are worth to claim an insurance reimbursement. The problem with outfits like Guns America and Gun Broker.com is they mostly feature new guns. What is a good online source to find out the current rate for used guns in good condition?
Thanks.

I hope you recover your guns, but the perps who stole them, their families never recover them.

do you have a list of what exactly was stolen? at least maker and close to a model number, or caliber and style? most insurance companies will have a starting point. otherwise you're kinda at a starting point where you either make [bleep] up (my suggestion) or you're screwed. if you have a police report with your initial statement about what was taken that will go a long way in an insurance claim.

You have a firearms rider on your storage unit insurance?
Or just claiming general loss?
Good luck with that.
I guess I thought storage units were for stinky grandma clothes and particle wood furniture.

Fjested's Blue Book of Gun Values. A new edition is published every year. Many libraries have a fairly recent one.
Don't blame me. I voted for Trump.

Advanced search on Gunbroker, recently sold. Good for recent transactions, say, within the year. Good as any till you get up to appraisals. If you have the make, model, maybe pic, serial number, ANY pertinent info check with appraisers. That may not get you to the penny but they sure might surprise you with a range of what those “old” guns are worth.
