My computer skills are low but If someone has this could they not just flood the Internet with it all ? Make copies of the hard drive and send them to "real" journalists? Kind of a preemptive dead man's switch.

The odds are quite high that none of that is true. The odds are also quite high that the FBI is using this missing laptop as an excuse to obtain warrants to raid, search and confiscate.

Some years ago someone posted an interview with a Middle-Easterner wherein the fellow stated that he and his had no issues with ordinary Americans, but considered the American Government to be the "Great Satan".
Now I wonder just how many Americans would actually agree with him?

That is exactly what they did with General Flynn. And the Trump FBI dropped the case. The case was closed. But, a corrupt Negro Federal Judge refused to drop the case. And it looked like the Justice Dept. was going after the government scum who had illegally prosecuted Flynn.
And then Trump lost the election and the whole affair dried up and blew away. Nothing to see here, move along.
Sorry for the hundreds of thousands Flynn spent on his defense team, and that he had his life ruined for the mere fact that he was a Trump supporter.
