Looking for something I can keep in the trunk of my '56 Chevy just in case. Does anyone have experience with the NOCO GB40? It has a 265 V8 so I don't need anything crazy big. TIA

I’ve got the basic model from Harbor Freight. Had it for 4 years and just charge it every few months or so. It’ has come in handy numerous times.
A buddy has one from NAPA that has a integral air compressor and a work light. Very nice looking unit.

I’ve got a Noco GB40 based on first hand reviews on another outdoors forum. I haven’t had to use it yet though. Caught it on sake for $65 on Amazon. Normally around $100 I think.

I highly recommend you spend the extra money and get the GB70. These units only deliver about 1/3 of their stated amp capacity as cold cranking amps, plus when the unit itself is cold, like in the winter, it is even less. That means a 1000 amp unit will deliver about 330 CCA at best.
I purchased the GB150 but I have a V10 Super Duty.

Not sure about that pack but NOCO makes very good charge controllers, especially for the price.

NOCO came to me as a gift from caring kids who worry about my adventures way out. Mostly have used it around the garage etc.. when one of the old batts gives out. It is excellent for its purpose in terms of holding charge and delivering on demand. The only knock I have is that those big clamps can be hard to get affixed to terminals in tight areas, especially those small head side terminals when some other component is close to them. Very good product.

A couple months ago, I punched in to work 10 minutes late. The Grandkids had been playing in the garage and somebody left the key on in the Durango. It was deader than hell Monday morning and it took about 1/2 hour to get enough juice in the battery with a 10 amp charger to start it.
There is a NOCO GB70 on the counter in case it happens again. But is is so far untried.
I bought my son and both SILs booster packs for Christmas. My son has used his several times, on my truck which I had left at the farm. He loves it. But I cheaped out, the boys did not get the NOCO.

I keep a JAGG Halo with me most of the time. It's small enough to carry in my hunting pack and has proven itself many times. It's very handy for jumping a boat or atv and charges many devices. Like a pistol, the smaller a jump box is, the more likely you are to have it when you need it.

Has anyone who doesn't have need to use theirs on a regular basis ever gone to use it when the need does arise, only to find that it has lost its charge?

I've felt for quite a few years that one would be good to have but haven't looked into it until this post. I just ordered the Noco GB40...

One of them saved my tail on a car camping trip one time. It cranked the V6 right over. I now have a Dodge diesel. To get a jumper that will start it, you're looking upwards from $200. I currently have an Anti-gravity X10 that's supposed to start it but it won't even turn it over.
