That's a great tag !! Good Luck to you better half. I killed a bull by Big Piney a few years ago------just after they put the wolves into Yellowstone.

Congrats to the both of you!

As far as licenses drawn by the wife and I, no trophy animals will be harmed this hunting season......unless we hit one with the truck! 🙂 memtb

He drew 24. Plenty of moose just not lots of big bulls.
I'll be doing the calling.
Sept 15 is our rifle opener for that area.

Thank you. Sounds like you and your bride are going to have a great hunt. I currently have 18 pp for WY Moose and am planning on applying next year with 19 pp. Looking at Area 38, 1, 26 and 25.

WY gave me a sheep AND moose tag the SAME year.

NO way to fix it.

Got a great sheep, never had time to hunt moose.

Talk about a stupid system !

Stupid huh, you're the only person I've ever heard complain about drawing a sheep and moose tag.. Don't apply for both in same year and you won't draw.

JD338 you will not draw 38 with less than max PP unless you get a random tag. I would look closely over the draw odds report and use those PP next year before Wyoming goes to 90/10 on sheep, moose and goat tags for NR. That push may well happen very soon. Good moose areas other tan 38, which gets all the attention .

Wytex,
Thank you for the advice. I know area 38 is tough and I thought you needed 20 pp. I'll check it out.

JD here are the drawing odds from this year : https://wgfd.wyo.gov/WGFD/media/content/PDF/Hunting/Drawing%20Odds/2021NR-Moose-PP-Demand-Report.pdf

We'll be in an area that 33% with your PP total drew out. You have options for a good moose just not in 38 I'm afraid.

Wyoming moose unit 24 is managed for quantity as opposed to quality. You're right that there isn't a lot of big bulls but there is still a solid chance at a mature bull. I drew that tag in 2018 and killed an average bull that I was perfectly happy with. I'd of spent more time on that tag if I hadn't of also drawn another rare tag in a different state.

I think the average Shiras bull killed in unit 24 is 32-34" wide, according to the stats. With some work a 40"+ is certainly doable. I know of one killed in 2018 that was about 45".

Good luck with it.

Got some harvest info from the biologist, includes age, spread and number of points per side for 2018. Bulls ranged from 27-44". Of the 14 that answered the survey, 6 were 40" + bulls.
Looking forward to just seeing the moose, we see them all the time while elk hunting over here.

Congratulations wytex. I'll be looking for one too. I drew a 34 moose. Bow hunting it.

Congrats to your spouse on the moose tag. I’m in that area all the time. It’s got plenty of moose to look at.
