Looking for a new or newer 4x4 truck for hunting and (hitch) towing a camper that weighs 4000lbs. What truck should I be looking at?

It's a toss up.
Pick one of the 3 US manufacturers and go with it.
Half ton if thats the heaviest you will ever pull.
Have a 2006 Silverado 1500 thats been a fine truck w 221k on the odometer. Have spent more in general maintenance that actual repairs.
Have a 2015 F350 6.2 gasser w 123k and have spent almost $7,000 in repairs on it in the last 50k miles. Just got a bad one.
The last time that bear ate a lawyer he had the runs for 33 days!

Mine is an LTS and for the places I go I am not sure I'd want one bigger, so if we ever need to replace it we will likely go with an LTi. These things are by far the best camper there is.

Get an old tacoma, they'll do anything a truck is supposed to. The four banger with manual transmission especially. If you can't do it with that it can't be done.

man you opened a can of worms with this thread.
owned many trucks. gave up gassers 15 years ago..no, 17 years ago. here are my inputs:
1. get a turbo diesel
2. get pre emissions.
2.a. . if post emissions, delete, delete, delete
3. My ranking are this in order (I've had / or have them all) Dodge RAM 1998.5-2007 Cummins 5.9L, after 2007 RAM with Cummins 6.7L , you'll have to deal with emissions after 2007, so get it deleted or delete yourself. Ford Superduty with the International 7.3L (1999.5-2003.5). the 7.3 is kindof a dog on power, but you'll get 750k miles out of it.
4. stay away from: Ford 6.0L and 6.7L they're nightmares for failures, and anything with the word Duramax on it.
5. eco diesels are for prius drivers that don't want to be prius drivers

Looking for a new or newer 4x4 truck for hunting and (hitch) towing a camper that weighs 4000lbs. What truck should I be looking at? I would strongly recommend a RAM 2500 4x4 6.4L w 4:10 axle set. I chose the 20" wheels. They work better for towing, less sidewall flex. The Panhard bar with the coil spring suspension is one of the best towing vehicles available. Very little sway induced by the suspension movement.
