A nice 99T in 30-30 just sold on GB, but it went through a month with no bids. I had a pretty itchy finger every time I looked at it. Aside from not having the extra cash, I just couldn't get past the cracked stock for this kind of money... https://www.gunbroker.com/item/897638510

Saw that one. Other than the crack and replaced sights, wasn't bad.

Man that particular crack could be healed right up with no ill effects but the bluing was pretty thin.

I agree. All-in-all it would've made a Jim-Dandy deer rifle, but not as such for that kind of money. Still and all, such things should be snagged when you see them, IMO, and rara avis' like these should be granted some leeway condition-wise. Had I still been hot to trot for 99's, and saw the auction, I would've probably taken a swing at it.
Just my opinion/observation, worth about as much as a bucket of warm spit.

I sure don't see 1700 there. If I was going to buy one to hunt with it would be a 300. Things being what they are right now, I may never find another 99 to buy. I'm still kicking myself for letting that 300 T with the G&H scope mount and the Lyman Alaskan that was on GB a while back get past me....

I think these sort of prices, and it being so hard to find anything I want, even the reloading components and ammo, are finally curing me of being an accumulator.
I'm still a proud tinkerbell though! and that little crack would have normally been my under-priced ticket in! I never had the budget or attitude to be a real collector, so that's just the sort of rifle I've always looked for,. something unique that I can add value to by fixing.
As far as needing another shooter, with generations of hunting grounds getting cut up into building lots, and it getting hard to even find a place to run the dog and shoot squirrels, I might be aging out of my love of hunting too...
Anyone for an air-rifle silhouette shoot?

The 30-30 is the one I still need... well, that and the 22HP. But the 30-30 is slightly realistic.

Calhoun, you saw that T that sold on Gun Broker at every savage Fest since Ohio. Did it look OK then? You could have had it for $500 less at at the last two fests.

Yep, that was a nice one but at the time I hadn't found a 303 and so wasn't close to finishing a set. I had to go to Maine to find a 303 T.. in a Cabela's. I've seen a few 30-30's sell over the years. Every time I run into one I seem to be tapped out from other recent purchases. And yes, I'm tapped out now.

I did pick up a shooter a couple years ago with a recoil pad, I was going to replace it with a grind to fit black buttplate like I did this one. Another project I haven't got to yet.
