Hope you don't bay up the wrong kinda bear. wink

Talking to Canadian wardens abutting my area, that's the problem they have. The dogs don't know which is which, and the houndsman can't pull the dogs off a grizzly that's been brought to bay, so they end up with a bunch of poached bears. (Which I am perfectly fine with, far to many of the fugking things here) but it ends up complicating the issue.

I'm all for the hounds, as long as it's done right. I've hunted lion with dogs, but never a bear.

Here's to a successful hunt dude!

The problem is they don't think they need bear hunting here.

Ya couple buddy’s in BC run dogs, grizz and wolves are always a concern, weather lion, lynx, or black bear. Choose your areas carefully and hopefully find a track before ya turn em loose. 👍

I got a bear over hounds in New Mexico. It was a blast. Going back in December for mountain lion.

Awesome! Colorado banned bear baiting and hounds in 1996. Now we are overrun with bears...

Ya so did Washington. He still gets to do damage hunts for the timber companies and collaring lions for the tribes and wdfw. Travels to Oregon every weekend to run bobcats. Be a good springtime hunt to get outta the house and do some predator control. 👍

I think you will see it only being allowed in areas with low grizzly density.

When using a strike dog, unless specifically trained not to, you may very well set loose on a raccoon, cat or fat chick. I have seen lions treed when we set loose on what we assumed was a bear strike. $hitty ass dogs can strike on trash like coyotes, then you're off to the races. It is why I like snow on the ground so you can confirm what you at least initially set loose on.

Good on Montana, in any event.

Not to be a downer but I believe it's residents only running dogs for bears?

The training license is clearly defined as resident only, less clear regarding actual hunting season. I'd call Helena before loading up dogs.

Copy that clay, been talkin to a couple buddies over there, sounds like they don't have all the details ironed out yet. Sure it'll be some kind of draw permit though. Be a fun opportunity if they let us come over .
