Derby winner Medina Spirit fails postrace drug test; Bob Baffert banned at Churchill Downs

The failed drug test is just another in a long series of events shadowing the sport -- and the Derby, its best known and most prestigious race -- in recent years.

Maximum Security crossed the line first in the 2019 Kentucky Derby before being disqualified by Churchill Downs stewards for interference in what was an unprecedented move. Country House, which crossed the line second in that race, is now considered the winner.

In March 2020, Jason Servis -- who was Maximum Security's trainer -- was part of a sweeping indictment that involved trainers, veterinarians and pharmacists in a horse doping ring. Baffert faced the doping allegations in Arkansas and Kentucky last year with Gamine, and now this.

"I'm worried about our sport," Baffert said. "Our sport, we've taken a lot of hits as a sport. These are pretty serious accusations here, but we're going to get to the bottom of it and find out. We know we didn't do it."

This isn't the first time one of Baffert's horses tested positive for banned substances. I think Baffert is a cheater.

Yep, the number of times he's been caught doping is all the evidence needed along with the current blood test. He's a crook, always has been.

"Mr. Baffert has had four horses fail drug tests in just the last six months. Over the course of his career, his horses have failed 29 drug tests. The Barometer has chronicled previously those last few tests, including Mr. Baffert’s “dog ate my homework” excuses."

With all the money involved in the horse racing business, there has to be an incredible amount of corruption and attendant shenanigans. Throw in the gambling side of it and you can probably triple it.

NOTHING surprises me anymore when it comes to dishonesty.

May as well have a couple black guys that can run like hell dressed up in a two piece horse costume winning the race.

There isn't a single phugking thing legit about big time pony racing. Show me the money.

If you didn’t have so many people on ignore, you’d have seen it.

They all cheat, but Baffert is scum.

So what about the people that got paid already when they picked Medina Spirit?

Do they have to give the money back? Yeah right.

Because they get away with it almost all of the time.

Doping is endemic in all high level sports and it is an arms race between the people doing the testing and the doping doctors. The doping doctors win nearly every round.

Professional athletes are using PEDs almost a much as the horses are....many are just ahead of the testing curve.
Money corrupts everything.
