Perfect for what?
Killing trucks? Killing bunnies? Shooting tight groups on paper targets? Fighting enemies? Stopping thick skinned dangerous animals? Shooting fur bearers? Killing flying birds?
Such a question is far to broad to answer.

Notice how the 270 isn’t mentioned. Oh Really ? The answer is: the .270 Winchester/150 gr. < ** # 1
Now, what was the question?
GR 1. 22LR 2. 222 Rem 3. 257 Rbts. 4. 6.5 Swede 5. 270 Win <** # 2 6. 280 Rem. 7. 300 H&H 8. 28ga 9. 20ga 10. 45 ACP
The "new kid on the block" is the .280 designed around 1957.
1) .17 Mach 2 2) .22 LR*
3) .223 Rem.* 4) .270 Win.* < ** # 3 5) .35 Rem. 6) .375 H&H
7) 9x19MM* 8) .44 Mag. 9) .45 Auto 10) .45 Colt*
Hm.
22 long rifle 222 223 22-250 243 25-06 270 < ** # 4 6.5x55 257 Roberts 20 gauge
If I can't kill it with a 270 I probably don't want to risk pissing it off lol
I think it was. Jerry

338 Win mag - no....make it a 44-40 375 H&H - no......make it a 45-110 458 Lott - no.......make it a 50-90

.22 LR - great for small stuff and practice 6mm AI - about perfect for varmints too big/far away for a .22 .300 WSM - the .308 diameter currently has the best general purpose NA hunting bullet in the 200gr Terminal Ascent, the WSM is the best case for general hunting use .375 WSM - the best setup for a bolt rifle either for big bears or where big bears might show up to a shot .50-110/.50EX Nitro - Elephant-level power, levergun speed .416 Rigby - best of the magnum Mauser cartridges for dangerous game 9mm - best concealed carry cartridge, also good in full sized 1911s .44 Magnum - enough gun for big bear protection without excessive recoil (or excessive weight to avoid recoil) 12ga - best shell for large birds 20ga - best shell for small birds and mixed bag hunting

The 10 go to chamberings for my main uses. Not counting shotguns, 12 ga and .410. Chronological timing has had some bearing in the choices, not chasing the latest and greatest if what I have still works perfectly good enough.

Exactly, partly because it also involves the shooter's experience. Have found most don't have as much experience as they imagine.

I'd need a "7" in there instead of 2 shotguns. Make mine a 7mm-08 or 7x57. +1 for the 7x57.

I'm a simple man. 22LR for plinkin' and little stuff 5.56 for stuff that might want to hurt me 257 Roberts for the recoil sensitive 270 Win for big game* 30-06 because I'm not a communist* 375H&H for bigger stuff* 12ga for stuff I can't hit with a rifle 357 Mag for grins 9mm for packin' 357 Super Mag for pistol huntin'
*Could get by with any of these as only gun in a pinch.
I am continually astounded at how quickly people make up their minds on little evidence or none at all. Jack O'Connor

It's just a WSM case expanded to .375. Performance is in line with the Ruger and H&H. The 375 Ruger isn't a bad idea either if you want a little bulkier gun, but it's generally a re-barrel rather than a re-bore unless you want to shoot a Ruger.

1. 22 long rifle. Fun and small varmints 2. 223 Fun and bigger varmints 3. 243 Win. Women, kids, impaired hunters 4. 30-06. Deer size game 5. 338 Win mag Can do anything a 300 can, plus will work for plains game and bears 6. 375 H&H African game, bears 7. 458 Lott. Big African game 8. 12 gauge. Birds 9. 20 gauge. Women, kids, birds 10. 45 Acp. Self defense, wifey shoots 45 no prob
A 9mm might be better for number 10. You can shoot anything with one of those rifles a big pistol would be suitable for. Most of my picks are based on availability except the 458 Lott That list is pretty oldschool, to say the least. There are much better/more efficient and accurate cartridges these days. Just sayin.
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

Which is the reason for my limited list.... The majority of us will never go to Alaska, or Africa, nor hunt trucks.....

Which is the reason for my limited list.... The majority of us will never go to Alaska, or Africa, nor hunt trucks..... In actuality, I only own & shoot 3 calibers of rifles and revolvers: .22 lr .44 mag/Spl 45-70 These meet all my needs, as I don’t bird hunt
