I have some of my own reloads that I used to shoot in a Thompson Contender 14”

Seems like I was neck sizing them, as I had no trouble with them in the Contender

But the shoulder is too long for a Ruger American 223.
I was hoping I could pull bullets and resize by removing depriming pin

I did 1 and it deformed my shoulder. NOT dents in the shoulder, but a bulging ring at the beginning of the shoulder

But it DID seem good according to a Dillon Go/NoGo gauge

Any advice would be appreciated

Buy a Redding Body Die and you won't have to pull the bullets.

Having said that, I have also successfully removed the entire expander stem and resized the cases, then ran the expander in on a separate operation.

But the Redding is sooooooo much faster and easier.

What you are talking about.........using a Redding body die works in most cases but yours is not most cases!!!!!!

I used to have several Thompson Contender's in 223 and each barrel had the most oversized chamber it was impossible to use the brass in anything else without using a small base full length die

to me Redding is always overpriced...

but in this instant, my 223 body die is worth every penny I paid for it..

have them in 223, 22.250, and 204, and 7/08....

Thanks for the advice. I’m going to try that Redding die and see how that works

Use a full length body die and you won't have to pull bullets. Lube the brass well and run the whole case with the bullet intact into the PROPERLY SET body die. I bought a Hornady comparator so I could dial in my reloads to properly fit the chamber.

If you use the body die to resize the loaded brass keep in mind you are dealing with loaded ammo and use all appropriate caution. Lube every case you run through it so you don't stick a case. Don't put your face over the die should you get something stuck under the brass and crush a primer. Use the comparator to adjust your dies to the size that squeezes the brass to dimensions that will fit your chamber so you don't have to do this again.

I used the Redding body die and it seemed to work easily

It fits perfectly in a Dillon Go-No Gage

Will shoot some them tomorrow in an
AR and a Ruger American
