Hello Tom - I know what you mean about the Alpine area in AZ - much like the Casi Cielo location and about the same elevation. We lived in AZ for a long time and shot my first elk south of Alpine (down near Hannigan Meadow) in 1965. Excellent elk country over there too. Thanks for the good wishes.

Would you consider any trades? I have some primers and 22s! How hard is it to obtain tags to hunt? I’ve been thinking about this for along time. Seems like this is the best time!

You can drive to East Texas and hunt Elk with no license. But....it's all private hunting on land. A 350 score bull will cost you $5k, a cow will cost about $2k.

Tags are the normal chances in the NM draw, Should have mentioned that you can get a tag any year by setting up with a local outfitter/guide and paying the price - they have lots of them, and the elk are all over this place.

OK, but what you say above was being said to me 22 years ago when we settled in there.. Mexico is no closer than it was then and, in some ways, even further away. No worries.

Excellent location. You will know where Mule Creek is located. The back way" to Alpine is from Reserve. AZ 191 passes by my cabin which is between Hanagan Meadow and Morenci, on USFS land-last of the FS cabins. Catron County is in Montague Stevens and Ben Lilly country. Great hunting land, as you described.

Couple of you guys are letting out too much information. I live in Alpine now, moved here in 1960, left for college in 1972. Back living on the family homestead now till I die.
