I abandoned MidwayUSA in 2014 when my "in stock" powder was never delivered after months of promises that it would be sent soon. It apparently was sold to a preferred customer and then a shortage prevented them from being able to send my "in stock" order.

My favorite Midway b.s. trick Is how you cannot modify or cancel an order because it has already been "shipped". Then, 3 days later you get a shipping notice with that day's date.

I was spending $2k/ year at Midway in the 1990s when they stopped free shipping while Potter was on safari with antique Winchesters.
I quit Midway for a couple years.
But by 2005 I was back to getting at least 20% of my stuff from Midway.
Then Potter started making high quality gunsmithing videos.

I am not aware that anybody is forced to do business with Midway. If you dont like how they do things then spend your money elsewhere. And why is any business required to do anything special just because it is your birthday?
Sometimes I buy from Midway and sometimes I buy elsewhere. One thing Midway has that works pretty good is the "notify me" option. I keep some stuff on that option and then can decide to buy or pass when it is in stock.
You get out of life what you are willing to accept. If you ain't happy, do something about it!

I had an air rifle in my shopping cart for future purchase. It was $299.00.
I wasn't even thinking about my b-day coming up at the time. I looked back later to see what was in my cart, and the air rifle was discounted to $243.00 or so...marked birthday discount.
My priorities changed and I didn't purchase the rifle anyways (Gamo Swarm Bone Collector), but I thought it was a sweet discount regardless.
So I wouldn't call it a scam. It's just a discount for 'qualifying items, but not everything in the store.
