I have placed this here as I expect it will get the most thoughtful insight/comments relative to some of the other forums. Moderators please move as appropriate.
It seems to me, since States are able to make laws that circumvent Federal legislation- such as in the case of marijuana. States could choose to enact firearm legislation that circumvented any current (or future) Federal laws.
It would be interesting to see States do so and view the social experiment that resulted. I suspect those States that were Libertarian in their approach to firearms restriction would both gain population (thus tax base and Congressional representation) as well as become lower crime.
To a small extent this experiment has already been run with California as an example, however broadening this to the rest of the country and having States enacting strict firearms protections, whether or not Federally supported makes sense to me and is analogous to what is currently being done with marijuana.
I welcome other's thoughts.
If you can't be a good example, may you at least serve as a dreadful warning

The 10th Amendment is dead as a mackerel and has been for 70 years at least.
Imagine a corporate oligarchy so effective, so advanced and fine tuned that its citizens still call it a democracy.

Through 2010, resolutions have been introduced in the legislatures of 27 states that would nullify federal authority over such local firearms. The legislation passed in Montana and Tennessee in 2009 and in Alaska, Arizona, Idaho, South Dakota, Utah, and Wyoming the following year.
I got banned on another web site for a debate that happened on this site. That's a first

since States are able to make laws that circumvent Federal legislation- such as in the case of marijuana. States haven't circumvented federal legislation on marijuana. Marijuana is still as illegal as it ever was but the feds have decided to be very lax in enforcing the law. Marijuana is not legal anywhere in the U.S. not matter what any state says.
