Yeah, sometimes I think about what it was like in the pre interweb days, when you had to pack up your gun and take it to the gunsmith, who may or may not know anything about old Marlins or Savages. Even if, the infomation was slow coming and sometimes costly. Nice to pick the brains of the experts, instantaneous and free. Not hard to figure out who knows and who is thinks they know. Thanks again guys.

Gnoahhh, what's your opinion on the Rem checkering job?

Gene, the top rifle in your first pic, the rear sight looks the same as mine except for the height. Do you think both could be original Marlin rear sights?

Thanks to all you Savage Collectors for letting me slide a Marlin and Rem into the discussion.

Charlie, that sight seems rather high for any Marlin I can think of, a lot of gun companies used that fine adjustment in their early rear sights, other features of the sight are what you look at to try identify them. Most lever actions had receivers that were not a lot higher than the top of the barrel and the sights usually were made to just to clear the receiver a reasonable amount at the lowest setting.

i'll finish up the new frt sight blade, and see if i can get it sighted in. will keep lookin for a lower rear also. couple on ebay may work.
