lately my iinterest got directed back to one of my favorite rifles, a Haenel Aydt Shuetzen rifle in 8.15X46R. It has been full of surprises, one being that it is actually a 7.7 not 8.15 bore! With powder cast 7.9's it will generally put 10 into about 4" or better at 200 meters, but I have been working at cutting that down. I would like to see it shoot 1MOA . Sure is lots of fun offhand! Isn't 7.7 bore diameter, and 8.15 groove diameter? I'm looking at an Aydt-actioned shuetzen too and the owner (a German who has a couple dozen of them and has shot them for 40 years) explained it to me that way when I commented about the 7.7 stamp under the barrel.

The dimensions were all over the place until they were " normalized after WW1 IIRC. Those guns are stamped with am "N" or " NORM" as mine is . It can be confusing fir sure, sort of like when Old Badger picked up an original 256 Newton and an original box of bullets that measured out to 6.5! I saw some data of older 8.15x46R rifles that had a very large variation in dimensions . All I know is my powder coated .314's slug up real nice LOL BTW, I would grab that rifle up, those things are truly an engineering marvel! Cat

Very cool rifle. Must be very enjoyable to shoot it. Yes it is, It is an absolute hoot! I was able to get to 300meters yesterday with it using Red Dot and breach seated cast bullets with the irons, even managed a few offhand on the steel ! The steel is 22" across the points. The heavier bullet strikes BTW are from a 308 Cat

Yeah pretty cool rig, thanks My bullets are weighing at 153 grains, they are cast from wheel weights and powder coated by a friend of mine. It still amazes me that the 7.5 grains of Red Dot will send that bullet out to 300 Meters with reasonable accuracy! Cat
