Place back in BFE West Virginia. Uncle had business with the owner who also had a bear in a pin at his house. Had a buffet of sorts. Kids walking up sticking their hands in the food. Was going to order a sweet tea and saw the glasses were filthy. Ordered a bottled beer instead and got out of there.

The only "restaurant" open in Jeffery City, WY. in 1969. Fly paper hanging over each of the 8 or so folding card tables in the place. No choice, Had to eat there every morning and night along with the sack lunches.
Dad and I had the squirts for what seemed like weeks until our guts got tuned up.

None. I've had fine meals at humble establishments on up.

Price is irrelevant. If place is busy and the staff is hustling, an unbussed table is not a deal breaker.

If the place is filthy, and the staff doesn't care.... I'm out. No food poisoning because I allowed it.

If I remember right, it was a place in eastern Arkansas. It was a converted garage and the floor still wore the evidence of every oil change done on it. The cook was a rough looking old woman with a serious tooth shortage which had not, however, prevented her from getting enough calories. We stopped for breakfast around mid-morning. We ordered eggs an bacon and while she was cooking our breakfasts she was also cooking a hamburger for another patron. The thing I remember most was the way she held the hamburger bun under her arm while she was flipping the eggs and the burger. I was really glad I had not ordered the burger. GD

Years ago me and a friend were working around San Angelo TX. and went to a place to grab some lunch.

Small place but didn't look to bad.

Felt safe and ordered a chicken fried steak.

never in my years have i seen a place screw up a chicken fried steak.

Can't remember what we got to tide us over but it did not get ate.

Stopped in a country store for a sandwich years ago while scattering tobacco sticks. Mamaw and Papaw were living in the store - they had cots with dirty clothes and blankets laid out back beside the potato chip rack.

I asked for a bologna sandwich, and Mamaw literally stuck her nose directly to the bologna roll and inhaled a big whiff, then said "Shoo-wee! Honey you better pick something else! This baloney done gone bad!"

I grabbed a can of beanie wienies instead.

I used to go to the one in NW Norman quite a bit. And it was always damn good. Surprised the one you went to was so filthy. Braum’s are typically pretty good establishments.
