God is Faithful -- ll

“There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.” (1Corinthians 10:13)

The phrase -- God is faithful -- is found twice in your King James Bible. The first time, he is faithful in calling us unto the fellowship of his Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. (1Cor 1:9) In the verse above, God is still faithful. God is dealing with his faithfulness to us in temptation that comes our way. He tells us something about temptation, and he tells us how to avoid it.

All temptations are common to man. There are only three temptations in the Bible. Eve was tempted in the garden before she ate of the forbidden fruit and gave it to her husband.
The lust of the flesh -- the fruit was good for food -- Genesis 3:6
The lust of the eyes -- the fruit was pleasant to the eyes -- Genesis 3:6
The pride of life. -- the fruit was to b desired to make one wise. Genesis 3:6

Jesus Christ was tempted in the wilderness for forty days in Luke 4 and Matthew 4. He was tempted the same way Eve was back in the wilderness.
He was hungry and the devil told him to make bread out of stones -- the lust of the flesh. Matthew 4:3
He was taken up to a pinnacle and tempted to cast himself down and let the angels bear him up. This was the lust of the eyes. Matthew 4:6
He was showed all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time and tempted to worship the devil to get the kingdoms ahead of the appointed time. Matthew 4:8-9

Jesus escaped every temptation by quoting the scriptures. Look in Matthew 4:4, 7, 10. It is written; it is written; it is written.

Look in 1John 2:16. “For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.”

James 1:13-15 tells us the path of temptation. “Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: 14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. 15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.”

Do you have a besetting sin? God will give you a way to escape that you may be able to bear it. Meet the temptation the same way the Lord Jesus did -- it is written. Eve corrected the word. Jesus Christ confirmed the word. What will you do with the word of God?

God is faithful. He will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, and he will give you a way to escape so you will be able to bear up to the temptation. Your part is to get the scripture you need, so you can keep pressing on.
