This afternoon my DIL was walking her lab. A loose mastiff and a pit attacked her leashed dog. The funny thing is, both my boys live fairly close to each other in Parker. Wade, my younger boy, heard screaming right across the street from his house. He was working from home and seen that the dogs had a dog and a lady on the ground. He rushed out to help, and was able to pull the mastiff off of Dash's throat. Other folks grabbed the pit off Jamie. It wasn't until they had the dogs controlled that he realized it was his SIL and her pup. They held the dogs until the dogcatcher got there. Luckily, Jamie only has scratches, abrasions and soreness, no punctures as the pit only had her by the clothes. Dash, the lab has punctures to neck, throat and shoulders and a damaged leg, but is basically ok. Once everything was controlled, 911, cops, animal control and my oldest boy Will was called. Jamie has a CCP, but wasn't....Lesson learned. Wade rushed out unarmed, another lesson learned.... A couple pics they texted me, and Wades doorbell cam caught his barefoot charge out the door, and you can hear Jamie's screams in it.....
Sounds like a mastiff/pit bull attack and the mastiff did the most damage ? Lucky they were able to get them apart before any serious damage was done. My Rottweiler damn near killed my neighbors German Shepherd one time and would have if I hadn't been right there.
I’ve handled a few mastiffs in my time. Thank God they do not tend to be aggressive, they are huge, strong dogs and could do tremendous damage . If they don’t want to cooperate, a solitary man can’t make them.
Thankful your DIL was mostly unharmed. Sounds like her dog will recover.

a rottie owner? shocked
I'm sure you're best suited to miniature poodles. LOL. Jackass.
Hard to listen to the young lady in trouble, glad she was ok for the most part, good thing you're son was there.
Brings back the memory of my Moms little dog getting torn apart by a Pitbull, then the dog turning on my Mom, almost chewing her thumb off. I was pizzed and something was going to die, the cops had the dog put down right away, smart.

Glad your DIL wasn’t hurt. She better start packing a pistol.

Where were the dogs from?
Wife had a Caucasian come in her work today, smaller female 115 lbs she said. Sweetheart till they tried to take her temp or premed her. Took 3 techs to hold her for the vet to sedate her. I love those big dogs but boy they can be a handful. Even when they are good.
We've got a few neighbors that let their pits run wild at times. I keep telling my wife to take the lcr 38 or 351 pd 22mag at least when she walks the dogs.
We've had issues with aggressive dogs and put bulls running free in our neighborhood. The one old lady the had 2 pits that ran free a lot moved but a relative moved into her house and they have a pit and another big mutt they let run free a lot too.
I told my wife I wanted her to come with me to the range until she's comfortable with carrying a handgun. I hope she will because we have a lot of people around us that like and own dangerous breeds like pits, American bull terriers and others and walking our bird dog gives them a chance to act out. My wife doesn't ever want to take a gun with and she's already had one of our dogs taken down by the throat by a neighbors 85 pound American bull terror while she was walking our dog with our small kids. I've got to get her confidence up with a gun so she's agreed to more range time this summer.
Where I live a pit bull is a more likely scenario for needing a gun than a criminal. Especially while out walking your own dog. It seems to attract all the aggressive dogs around when you walk a bird dog. Although the pits never seem to attack or even come near when I'm walking the dog whether I'm armed or not. I think they smell fear.

I can't find the original news report video, but the knife she used looked like a typical kitchen or steak knife
Sounds like most of those “bully breeds” have had most of the the fight to the death terrier blood breed out of them. Glad that it worked out ok without any serious injuries.
I hope they don't get those dogs back. I wouldn't walk my dog or just take a walk myself without my CC guns. My wife shoots better than I do so there is that. Be Well, RZ.

Where the hell do you get that comment from?
Rather than fantasizing that they lucked out and ran into the Barney Fife of Pit bulls, more likely they recognized the son as the alpha male and they did what mostl canines do, yield to the dominant pack member.

I got called out one night to a bar on the outskirts of Calgary. The cops had arrested a man for a reason I cannot remember. Turned out he had two full grown mastiffs in his van. I had to impound them for safekeeping.
Thank goodness the two cops helped. Both dogs would not cooperate, they just went limp. It took all three of us to move each 180-200lb dogs. At the kennel, thankfully they move on their own accord.
