Like houses, gun prices are all relevant to the market. I can sell a 99 for a tidy profit only because I’ve had it for years. But if I want to replace it I better brace for “take it in the pants” prices. So my options are to sell and pocket the cash for other things, buy another gun at the current going rates and maybe break even, or just keep it and not concern myself with the inflated gun market of today. For the most, the latter will be my option of choice.

is that the one that has tapped & drilled on the receiver? 4 holes if I remember correct

My Dad would feel vindicated with the rise in Savage 99 prices. After the AWB was passed he began buying lever actions, specifically Savage 99s. I sure do appreciate that now. I won't be selling any time soon though.
