John,
I know you are in the habit of using Ramshot powders. I have been using them for a few years now after first reading of your experiences. My question is about RS Hunter. Have you tried Hunter? If so could you please share your impression of it? No shops in my area carry Ramshot powders right now so I will have to purchase via mail order. The hazmat charge makes me want to buy 8 lbs or more to make it worth my while. But I don't want to get stuck with a bunch of powder of limited or little utility. I would value your opinion on this.

Use the Search function. MD has posted many comments re: Hunter. Very positive reviews! A great value. Temperature insensitive. Meters very well. Shoots best when run to high book pressures. Works well with std. primers, and if it doesn't shoot with standards, mag primers fixes it.

I've started to play with it in R19/H4831 applications. Very close to R19 in burn rate and velocities. Not quite an exact substitute but generally comperable within a grain.

Really good stuff.

What he said.

Hunter has become one of my go-to powders. I use it more and more where I often used H4350 or H4931 or RL-19 in the past. I use it a lot in the .257 Bob, 6.5x55 (it also works in the .260), .270 Win., 7x57, and .30-06. Have also used it with great results in 6mm Remington, .280 Ackley, .300 Winchester Magnum and .338 WM with certain bullet weights. Just a great al-around medium-slow powder.

How is it for the 9.3x62? I'm using RL15 right now, but Midway has Hunter on sale for 9.99 a pound, have to buy five pounds to make the Hazmat fees worth it.

I have not used it in the 9.3, as even with 286's the case is pretty well filled with Big Game, the next-faster powder from Ramshot. I assume from this that Hunter would be too slow.

John,
Thanks a lot, that is what I was hoping to hear. I appreciate you taking the time and care to respond.

Oregun45- Thanks for the heads-up on the price @ Midway I will be taking advantage of that.

Gaviidae Esq.- No offense because I assume your response was offered in the proper spirit. But assuming a person asking a question is ignorant of the concept of a search function is tiresome and does nothing to further discussion. I waded through many pages of posts prior to asking John his thoughts and I would not wish it on anyone. Just for fun try it. The word Hunter is hardly ever used here.

Not sure why you waded through so many pages of posts. You can filter out certain results using + or - in front of keywords, and also search using member's names. For example, in this case I use the search string "+Ramshot +hunter" and search using the name "Mule Deer", I come up with every instance JB mentions Ramshot Hunter.

JAC43- Thanks for the "+" tip. That alone eliminates 7 pages of posts. I will be sure to use it in the future.

JAC43:

That sounds like boolien voodoo. Some of us don't do boolien very well.

Easier and faster just to ask.

Offered completely in the friendly spirit - mostly as a short form citation as you were asking MD's opinion, which I tried to summarize since I am also experimenting with the powder and have myself run the user search with the "+" terms. Also noticed that you have a low post count and hoped pointing out the search function would help you out.

Since you've been around since '05 ...

Quit yer lurking! Feel free [if not obligated ;-) ] to post your load development results ... good, bad & ugly! Hunter is a relatively new powder and many of us are dabbling with it.
