If my memory serves me correctly, these were custom shop rifles. Were the barrels marked with caliber only like the KS series custom rifles?

I let a 300 H&H KS get away from me as I didn’t realize that was how they marked with caliber only.

Have a chance to pick up what I think is a C grade locally for what I think is a good buy.

Thanks

1977, I was living in Moscow Idaho and found a 700C in 25-06. I didn’t buy it; bad decision. It’s somewhere and I would like to find it still.

I have bought several used 700 C’s over the years and have a couple that are stamped on the top of the barrel, “Remington custom shop, Illion, NY” IIRC. Two 700’s and a 547. The others are just marked with the chambering on the left side of the barrel as usual. Some have the date codes on the left side of the barrel just forward of the receiver ring, most don’t.

Mine is from 1969. No address or date code. Just caliber and proof marks/inspector stamp. Rosewood inlay and caps. Beautiful wood and fit/finish.

Ithaca Mag 10 Supreme grade. Pretty early production, like 1500 range.

My BIL used to be a Texas DPS trooper. They were issued an Ithaca Mag-10 Roadblocker.
They kept it loaded with slugs to stop vehicles with.
He said he didn't know if they would bust engine blocks..... but they'd play hell with everything else under the hood ...... and the passenger compartment !! LOL

Every C grade 700 I've seen, or drooled over in the catalogs had the rosewood grip & forend cap. Thinking checkering changed a bit over the years like it did with the other 700's, but the C was always hand cut.

A lot of earlier 700 Safaris got some of the C grade treatment, but not sure if they were labeled as such.

While we're the C subject. I've been looking for quite sometime for a Skeet C 1100 in 12ga.

The gun shop where I bought my Whelen had a 700 C in 300 H&H that had been built for a guy that owned a grocery store chain. He passed away before it was delivered. I don't remember the price but it was more than I could do at the time. It was a work of art.
