Opened one of the small chest freezers we have this morning to get some sausage, noticed that some of the frost at the top was melting.
Sum beach had quit. Six years old.
Got lucky, all the meat in the bottom was still frozen hard only some of last years garden stuff and some cooked sweet potatoes were a little soft.
Now the other freezers are jam full.
I need to look into a couple of those alarms I guess.

I don’t know what brand of freezer it is, but my folks got one that is still working. I am 52 and it’s been around ever since I can remember.

My son in law owns a business that is appliance-based. He has four techs that all travel to people's homes and repair their appliances. He's been doing this either as a tech or business owner for fifteen years. Still makes calls himself when he has to.
If you ask him what brands of "affordable" (under $2,000) refrigerators and freezers to buy, he has one simple answer - "Maytag, Whirlpool, or Amana. The rest are either overpriced, junk, or both."

It do seem like most appliances are geared for crapping out after 6 or 7 years anymore.

I have a relative who had a new house built and wanted the best of everything. Got a huge fancy refrigerator that does all sorts of wondrous things besides just keeping things cold. Don't recall the brand, but I'm talking well over $2K. Has been repaired 3 times in 3 years.
The microwave and oven are made by Bosch. Microwave goes out and they discover that the entire unit, microwave and oven must be replaced. Replaced under warranty and a year later the microwave needs work again.
One of their water heaters crapped out after only 2 years!
I've got a GE refrigerator that is over 10 years old. The Maytag washer & dryer is over 6 years old, etc.
Either they're all putting out crap now days or they are focusing on features and not quality!

it's prety simple. if you make [bleep] that lasts forever and never needs replacing you wont be in the manufacturing business very long.

Its really funny. Back in the late 1980's when I went to bidness school, there was much talk of the burgeoning consumer class in China coming out of the stone age and how all of em were going to need a washer, dryer, fridge, freezer, etc......and we were gonna sell it to them.
Somewhere along the line the gameplan changed and the appliance (and everything else) business decided it would be better to have them make the stuff and sell it to Americans.
