My first car was Henry the Ford. A ‘71 Galaxy 500 four door hardtop with a 351 Windsor. Henry was a hand-me-down that Dad bought used for a family car. My aunt put a big dent in the door, and we couldn’t find a replacement, so I guess the “Old Man” figured I couldn’t hurt it much.
Henry was known among my friends for tossing the hubcaps off doing donuts and jumping through covered bridges! grin
We had a salvage, and when I turned 15 Dad give me a choice as to what I wanted to fix up. A 76 Cougar XR7, a 68 Camaro with a 350, a 72 Mustang fastback with a straight 6, and a 72 Monte Carlo with a bigblock 402.
He said they’d all be roughly the same amount of work and money, so whichever one I picked was ok with him. Those two great big valve covers in the Monte made the choice pretty easy.
I worked on the thing for a year before I ever put a mile on it. New quarter panel, door and fender & bumper. Wet sanded it all and my cousin painted it “Russet Metallic” a copper color brown with metal flake. I hunted up a set of factory Rally Wheels with rings and centers.
I’m not bragging, but that freakin thing was immaculate, and the torque of the 402 made it quick.

1976 F150 300 I-6. 3 on the tree. You could stand under the hood in it with your feet on the ground and change the plugs. We swapped in a top loader, and my brother drove it to death. Good truck.

77 plymouth Volare station wagon. Iconic. Clutch plate went out and I bought a 76 f150 for $300. The wagon has more memories, but I'd take that truck back in a second.

The first car that I bought was a 1970 Datsun 510. Now wish that I had it again. Of course, I could say that about a couple of cars.

Had one just like that, but not an SS. 327 with a three speed. Got it for $50 with a trashed engine when I was 16. Rebuilt the engine and drove it through my college years.

Still have mine! 1970 Olds Cutlass Supreme. Dad rolled it off the showroom floor two months before I was born. I had her completely restored in 1989. Here she is today.

Back in 68 a 16 yo could ride a motorcycle but had to be 161/2 to drive a car, so my first ride was a 67 Norton Atlas 750cc. Later used Mom's 60 Plymouth until I graduated to my own, a 63 Ford 4 door Custom, I think was the model.

I had a pair of Ford Broncos in HS. A 1979 Ranger XLT I still have, 400/C6 TracLok in both diffs, and a 1974 Ranger that was a 200/3sp. The big 79 is always 4 hours of my time and $200 of my money from being “right”.

That is gorgeous. My brother's first car was a 70 Cutlass Supreme and whenever I see one like it I can hear the sound of a block long burnout from my youth...
