1962 Pontiac Tempest, badly faded red pain.... mom bought it for $250, off an airman in her office at the Pentagon who was getting transferred to Vietnam. when I saw in I almost barfed..... crap what a piece of junk, POS looking car.... Mom told me to try it out at least... said it was real peppy for a 6 cylinder.
Took it around the block until I was out of sight of home.... at the stop sign, I stopped, nothing company, so I just floored it...car went every direction but straight...... stopped it, popped the hood. the " 6 cylinder" was a Pontiac 421 crate motor with 2 four barrels in it... guy had been setting up to drag race it...
Had it 8 weeks before mom finally got a clue of it wasn't stock....she took it and sold it back to someone else at the Pentagon...
Next I ended up with 1957 Cadillac Fleetwood 6 door limo, that was a former State Dept Vehicle... Looked like a Mafia Mobile, complete with 22 LR bullet holes in one of the rear fenders....Heaviest car ever built in the USA.. 50 gallon gas tank.. huge engine, with two 4 barrels, the air cleaner cover was so huge, you couldn't see the engine under it...we did wrap the Speedometer on I 95 going down to Richmond, but then had trouble trying to slow it down...
90 days later she took that car, and I ended with a 1970 VW Bug.... Good story. Sounds like mom was one tough mother!

1965 Corvair Monza had 4 single barrel carbs 140 horsepower. And you are still breathing air? Ralph Nader says that car is Unsafe At Any Speed. This was an excellent engine and very good (and safe) car. Had a turbocharged Corsa. Nader was a crappy attention-getter.

A red 1992 Ford Ranger, exactly like this one, but in 4wd with off-road tires. With the 4.0L V-6, it would scoot pretty well. I loved that little truck.....
Now with even more aplomb

1st vehicle was a 53 IH pickup. 16 inch wheels, non synchro 4 speed with compound low. 65 mph top end. paid $100 in 1966 and had to get a 6 volt battery for it. Lived in Colorado at the time and only time we got stuck was when a log bridge over a creek gave way and the truck got high centered. Had elk in bed of truck. 1st car was a 2 door 57 chevy with 3 speed, 230 cubic inch 6 cylinder over bored, rev kit cam and lifters, 3 two barrel carbs, 4:11 gears, headers. You could bury the speedo while in 2nd gear. Got about 8 mpg. Collected several drag strip trophies, and speeding tickets. Sometimes wish I had it still.

1975 VW Rabbit, orange, with a sunroof. Was a pretty cool car back in the day. Had some fun in it during college spring breaks.

A 1958 MGA 1500 coupe with the Rudge racing wheels in English racing green. I couldn't even get in one today. At 6'3" it was a tight fit then. Now over 6'7" and an extra 100# s it is only a dream.
