Oooh... draft copies in hand! Don't harass me about the cover, I threw something together in 15 minutes just to get the draft copies printed. Though actually.. I'm kind of liking it. And the pictures look FAR better than I expected. The print quality is amazing. If anything, I might have to reduce exposure on a few pictures that are too bright.

What is the width, length and thickness. 4 1/4" x 6 7/8" x 3/8" Some of the special grade pictures are pretty dark. I'll see what I can do about improving those.

Murray's is 6x9x3/8" so about 3/4 the size. Sounds about right.

6" x 9" is "trade" size, pretty much the default and very common. I was thinking just slightly larger than trade for my full book, but since I'm doing this small version I might make the full book even a bit larger. We'll see.

Got to burn a couple vacation days this month, so got a 4 day weekend starting tomorrow. I'll get to work on it and see if I can't get the rest of the models reformatted for it. Then I'll start finding miscellaneous pictures to fill up the blank spots.
This may not be too long of a process. i would be in for three , i'll give you the 3 consecutive numbers later ,, they are under 100 norm under my name 152 , then 153 154,154 with no names just signed by u thanks

The end is near... thank goodness! Few fixes this weekend, review latest data for start/end dates per year, then upload and print off another draft.. hopefully it'll be good and ready by end of the month. If I need to make fixes after seeing the draft, probably mid-August. 140 pages, not counting the cover. Photographs aren't all that great, but it has the best I could do on the small format.

For my two cents, I like your "threw something together in 15 minutes" cover.........looks Savage 99, rustic, huntin', and real nice!!! Ifin' you're taking a poll, I for it.

Proof reading.. sucks, but so necessary. Almost invented a 250-30000 cartridge for a dozen models. I think I'd want a recoil pad for that.. maybe a vehicle mount.

It's... done.
Hopefully.
Final draft copies ordered. Unless there's a serious flaw, should be available to order online in a few weeks. Might be 5-6 weeks before I have any in hand to ship out.
I think I see drinking in my future tonight. A lot of sleep after that..
The pictures are what they are. At this small format, there won't be a lot of detail in many. But better than nothing, and most will be "okay". Buy it for the data. Then we can start improving on that, especially for postmils.

I think the final count is 142 significant variations of 58 different models.
That's not counting things like the 800,000 rifles as a variation, different calibers as variations, different barrel lengths as variations, or counting very small groups of transition rifles, late rifles with a mixture of early model features, etc. So the blued DE's got a mention, but there weren't enough made to become a 'variation'. On the other hand, a few hundred octagon barreled 99C's were enough to be a variation.
142 production variations that were catalogued or made in significant numbers.
That's a lot of variations... wonder if we'll find more postmil variations?
PS: A few instances, like the 1927-1928 group of 99's that were made with a mirror blue, could be argued that they should be a separate variation. I noted the change, but in the end didn't make them a separate variation. I'd love to see the ledger entries for some of those..
