I've gotten a few e-mails that Norton stopped cold containing the Klez virus in the last few weeks. Then, a couple of weeks ago, one actually got into my computer. Norton recognized it, but couldn't quaranteen it. After a few more Live Updates, it got the job done. I just deleted it yesterday after another virus scan. A couple of months ago, another one, Download Trojan, got into my machine. A virus scan caught and quaranteend it. Do keep your subscription services current and run your scans as you should. E

That klez virus seems to run in cycles as far as the E-mails I'v been getting with it.I'll get 4-5 a day for a week or two and then none for awhile, next thing I'm getting bombarded again. Jeff

I do daily virus definition updates. No matter what it costs, virus protection is free!

Thing I don't like about Norton is it slows down my system alot. Don't know if its memory, modem or what. This computer stuff is irritating. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

Norton is very operator system invasive. Unfortunately it is pre-loaded on most new computers today. In my opinion it eats too many system resources and causes far too much interference. I tell folks to immediately remove it when starting up a new computer and certainly before you load any new software.
The virus detection software I recommend the most is McAfee. The only problem with McAfee is they like to bundle their software with other system utilities. The basic version is the best, and the least expensive. McAfee has never allowed any virus into our systems. They seem to be a little quicker on the draw in identifying new viruses and providing detection updates.
Unless you are updating the detection files every few weeks, you can be exposed to new/modified virus versions. It is estimated that as many as 1500+ new viruses are modified/created each month.
Note - When you optimize your computer every few weeks, remember to turn off your virus software before you start.

I'd like to dump Norton. I suppose one of the competitors could walk me thru getting rid of it. Good, helpful info once again.

I thought My computer had caught one. But it was just a bad power supply and three of four fans going out. It's two years old but they repaired it for free and got it back to me in a few hours. Just now got it hooked up and running again.
