A friend of mine won an auction 2 weeks ago and paid seller by PO. Seller has not shipped pistol, but has recently listed 7 more guns for sale. One is an old 45 acp with this in the description. Remington Rand 1911 A1 serial # 1441119. So I used Duck Duck Go. Turns out the 45 is for sale on Guns America. With the exact same pictures as our Gunbroker seller used.
Talked on the phone to the Guns America seller Saturday. He sold the 45 the day before.
Contacted Gunbroker by email. We will see what happens. Auction number. 903035923
Be careful. Hasbeen

I hate that. Hope there's some avenue of restitution. If he used a Postal Money Order isn't that a federal crime?

Just realized this is a scam. All happened last weekend. Have not heard from Gunbroker yet. Seller has 7 auctions open right now. I’m afraid a few trusting folks are going to win these auctions and send him more money.

two men were taken for over 10k on K-80's a few months ago; I found several guns pictures stolen off Guns International & Guns America then placed on GB, same pictures posted on different Ads the same time frame. Beware of N/R sellers, the uses of Zell, PayPal and Postal Money orders only, No FFL and read reviews if low feed back. Also fraud web sites discovered selling ammo and reloading supplies too. Now collector 1911's are so "HOT" stealing those pictures for scams.

If a seller is an FFL would obtain the # and verify with ATF web site, guys its bad out there and GB doesn't have the staff to fight them off, seen scams on GB today.

When your friend spoke with the seller on the telephone, he didn’t pick up any red flags? Like a Somali accent?

Good luck with the post office, I got scammed a little over a year ago and sent the money via PMO, they were no help at all.

Same questions I have.

I haven't bid or purchased a gun on that site for probably 6-7 years? Never had an issue.

Folks don't pay attention to seller reviews and if seller an FFL and if not PM the seller if not response, 1st glue, the 1911 Pic I've seen on several sites, they re-use them.

Look @ this scammer, he's been using the same picture on GA every 2 or 3 months selling the gum from different states, now in Calif. I think some of these scammers are national ring ?

Background of the different firearms. Most sellers that have multiple(s) of weapons to sell, use the same place/background to take pictures out of convenience.

This seller has too many pictures that look to be taken in different locations.

Not 100%. But, coupled with his newbie status, and poor reviews by (2) buyers. He’s an easy pass.

YMMV

I have emailed sellers on GB that had “NR” newbie status with a “Buy it Now” price and asked for them to take a pic with the firearm and my name of a piece of paper for proof of ownership.

I explain my reason for caution, obviously. Each time I got a reply with the firearm and my name on a post-it...I bought the weapon on the spot.

Thanks,good info.

But for those of us that don't search multiple websites for the same firearm, some of those clues are not relevant.

Buyer beware I guess.
