What would be an average top of the back to brisket measurement on a mature Shiras bull moose? So far the only moose reference I have found says 30 to 36 inches but it didn't specify what species. Has anyone taken some real measurements on a Shiras? Thanks.

Sounds about right. If you're inquiring because of an archery hunt coming up, shiras moose are very easy to sneak up on and call in. No need for a far shot with lots of arrow drop.

I wanted to have an average size to see how much my sight pins cover at various yardages as a quick check for distance, So with my top pin on the back and the bottom pin on the brisket, I can see approximately what that yardage would be.

I have 2 Shiras bull moose shoulder mounts. Top to bottom of the mounts is 35" and 36". The tops of my moose mounts doesn't extend back to the top of the hump, so I think on a live moose, from the top of the hump to the bottom of his belly would be in the 40" range.

my mount matches buffybr's. my wife's is considerably larger. and she never lets me forget it. Her moose was a tall drink of water. head and rack trying to escape one side of the pickup box on one side and legs crawling out the other. won best of show and best female hunter that year.
