Awhile back, I bought a R600 with a heavy fluted Hart barrel in 308. It came with a Timney trigger installed and an unknown brand synthetic silhouette style stock. Unfortunately the LOP is 14 1/2 inches, much to long for me. I mounted a SS 12x scope in a Murphy Precision base, and with my moderate rifle skills it seems to shoot ok. I just can't get comfortable with the stock. Local smith thinks it might be an early B&C, but says the LOP can't be shortened. You can squeeze the stock at the butt and see it give.

It seems McMillan no longer inlets for the 600, so I would have to get a flat top and a custom inlet job from a smith...probably over $1K if I use Long Rifles Inc

I could get a Boyds and have the local guy open the barrel channel...likely the cheapest route.

Extreme Rifle Works sells MPI brand stocks on GBer. I contacted him. Said he could get a Sendero style stock direct from MPI inletted for the 600, and do the rest of the work. Didn't inquire as to price, but probably between the Boyds and the McMillan.

I've read mixed reviews on the MPI stock, so not sure I wanna take a chance on it. Or if the 600 is even worth the effort of restocking at this point.

And thought or experience with MPI stocks, etc?

Thanks

Rick at Extreme is a fiberglass wizard! You will be nothing but pleased. As far as MPI stocks go, they are top notch(when installed and bedded correctly), and Rick will stand behind any work he does.

It's not that hard to do. I put a Hoque on one yrs. ago, and was really happy with it!

I bought an HS Precision and they refused to make the LOP I wanted. It is close but I paid quite a price. The stock is good for what it is but if I have to wear lots of winter clothes it is still too much LOP. I would bypass them. Is Lon Horiuchi still part of their ownership? Anyway I think I will look at Brown Precision or MPI next time. Be Well, RZ.
