I'm looking for a reputable gunsmith to do a black nitride finish on my new rifle build. Was hoping to find someone in AZ but a google search has found nothing. Seems cerakote is the latest fad but I dont want a "coating" , I want the finish etched into the steel chemically. Anybody ever have one done?

Probably won’t find anything local, not a whole lot of places set up for it. Tear it down, pull the barrel, bead blast everything and sent it to H&M.

I had benchmark send mine out with a batch they were having done. It was cheaper that way as whoever they hav do it charges by the batch rather than per rifle Probbly an arospace contractor of some kind Turned out nice.

This is some good information. Over ten years ago, I wanted to have a varient of this done for a project. I talked to a company owner with no such luck. I should bookmark this for future reference. I have a microtech blade that I think is carbononitride finished. It's my go to paring knife for lemons, limes, ginger or any acids that rust my chef's blades instantly. It's as scratch resistant as I've found so far and looks very good.
