$70 for a stocking cap? I don't think so. A thick fleece hat for $15 is my choice.

Quilts are fine when the temperature is somewhat warm. Just as well go with a full bag in below freezing temps, as by the time a person cuts out the drafts with an extra long and extra wide quilt, the thing weighs nearly as much as a regular bag. I've gone back to sleeping bags in cold conditions. That cutoff point is person dependent - I'd rather carry a few extra ounces and stay warm and cut out drafts, but others sleep more comfortably with the extra room of the quilt.

My 10 degree quilt is extra long, extra wide, and weighs under 2 lb.

My 10 degree quilt is extra long, extra wide, and weighs under 2 lb. Eh, a full bag weighs a few ounces more than a quilt, and there's no worry about drafts. Keep in mind, this quote is coming from the guy who bitched about meat loss with Accubonds, while shooting animals in the shoulders. Big surprise, shooting animals in the meat messes up the meat. Experiences may vary.

Even if the quilt weighed the same as a bag, I'd still choose the quilt for the extra space, less twisting when I turn in the night, and more flexibility to ventilate and kick my feet out when needed. Just my preferences.

I like the concept of the quilt but spiders. There are black widows and brown recluse where I camp.
With my luck one would work its way into my quilt.

i dont do a lot of backpackhunting in the sense that we pack camp eevry day so bag weight isnt a huge issue to me I have a Big Broawning 0 degree bag that is like a furnace even when its frigid out. for spring/summer I have a onetigris down blanket. my pad of choice is a BA Q core deluxe and its incredibly comfortable
