I started putting her in for the draw in 2001 and she drew an antlerless tag in WMD 6. I wish it was a bull tag but we're going moose hunting. Anyone have any recommendations for guides or sporting camps in WMD 6. I've never hunted that part of Maine.

Thanks Mike! I found a Facebook group for Maine Moose Hunting. Lots of info there. Apparently you can swap permits although it’s usually for the same type - bull or cow.

I drew a bull tag in 2000 in WMD 8. It seems like the hunts further north are in high demand based on the calls I've made so far.

Unless he is able to swap, Hal is no where near WMD 6.

Well I booked with Blackwater Outfitters after talking with 8 or 9 places today. The lodge is in unit 6 and they have individual guest cabins which offers a little more privacy. They will skin and quarter your animal and keep it in the cooler until you leave or butcher it if you want.

Best of luck,I used to put in for that ,never even got a sniff. Back when I was trying I think you could pull a OTC deer tag at the same time, not sure if it still is available.

Thanks! Took 12 years when I drew my bull tag. 20 years for my wife. Odds aren't good for non-residents

I live on the northeast side of WMD 6 and have been seeing a lot more moose this spring than years past. We sometimes bird hunt down along the Blackwater, and that general area, and there are some decent pockets of moose. Wife and I saw a good number of medium sized bulls last October.
Good luck.

Shot my bull ten years ago on the black water , zone 6 was always a great hunt . Do your homework and find the right age cutting where they will feed . Lots of territory from knowles corner to beaver brook road

Congratulations and good luck! The odds for non-residents are very slim (about 1:80 if I recall correctly). My nephew and his son (Maine residents) have gotten interested in hunting so I put their names in this year, along with mine. Hopefully, one of them will get lucky before I'm too old to join them! We have a camp in zone 10; not as many moose there as further north, but have gotten a couple trophies thanks to the dogs. A great antlered skull that our old Lab found a few winters ago and a shed that our puppy found last week.

Some pics from my zone 8 bull hunt in 2000 - Camp sign off Rt 15 heading towards Jackman Cabin my son and I stayed in. Couple bulls and a cow taken on the first day. One of the bulls walked up to us the first morning as we sat on a ridge. I let him pass looking for a 50 incher. Nice bull taken in Zone 4 Tuesday morning. Another nice bull taken in whiteout conditions Tuesday morning. The bull walked across the road in front of the truck while they were waiting out the storm. My son with the bull I shot late Tuesday behind the dozer we used to get him out. We had jumped a big bull in a swamp and tracked him into a cedar swamp when I saw this bull standing behind a tree I shot him thinking it was the big one. My bull on the scale in Jackman - 700 lbs 64 1/2" bruiser the guides brother shot Wednesday in the same area we hunted Tuesday.

Nope, on the UPHILL side of the road. Then you can back up until the lowered tailgate is under the moose.....

I did not draw but glad to see a forum member did! Looking forward to hearing about your hunt.
