The Savage marked scale that was used to set the Lewis springs is as close as I'm going to get to owning a Lewis. I do use them to check trigger pull on other rifles.

You ever notice how much the weapons portrayed in the first Star Wars movie looked at lot like broom handle Mausers and Lewis machine guns? Well.. nailed it. The "BlasTech T-21 light repeating blaster" seen carried by the Sandtrooper Officer. It is a British Lewis light machine gun with its drum magazine removed and other minor cosmetic alterations.

We always kidded around about that. And while I’m on the subject of Star Wars, what damn use was all that body armor when it seemed to stop absolutely nothing. Heck, the Empire could have saved a lot of money by outfitting those guys in flip flops, Bermuda shorts and T shirts for all the use that body armor appeared to be. And obviously I’m kidding around here and thanks for putting up the picture.

Article in the New York Times by Frederick Upham Adams from August 4th, 1918 on machineguns in general, and how soldiers were trained on the Lewis. This article was made into a booklet by Savage later on, good find if you can locate a copy. Page 1 - Making Our Machine GunnersPage 2 - Making Our Machine Gunners
