Ken,
As heartwarming as the snopes comments were regarding the Clintons not accepting money from the Secret Service to offset the cost of providing space to conduct operations, I for one will continue to hold them in deep disdain for all the other stuff they didn't do right.
On a totally unrelated note, I just became aware of your .220 Howell creation by reading a few posts on accurate reloading's varmint forum. I guess I'm a little behind the times. This is exactly what I've been looking for. I thought I wanted a .22-243 but after having seen yours, it seems like such a better design. Can you point me toward some writings or maybe recommend the best barrel length and twist for 75 and 80 grain bullets using late manufacture slow burning powders? I swage bullets so supplying them shouldn't be a big problem. Thank you.

In a good barrel, at the velocities (3,500 - 3,600 ft/sec) easily attained with 75-grain bullets out of the .220 Howell, the desired twist is eight or nine inches. The bench-rest barrel on my latest .220 Howell rifle is 26 inches long, with three grooves and a nine-inch twist. For a slightly longer 80-grain, an eight-inch twist may be necessary. A lot depends on the quality of the bore.
Swaging your own may put you well ahead of the rest of us. The problem with currently available low-drag .224 bullets is their thin jackets -- they can't take spins faster than about 300,000 rev/min without becoming useless little gray clouds in just a few yards of flight.
The best powders include Ramshot Magnum and IMR-7828 (I designed the cartridge around the latter -- I don't think the former was out then). IMR-4831 is too fast, and 50BMG too slow.
I haven't been on that board for quite a while. You must have dug pretty far back to find mention of my hot new .220!
