For those that have used it on elk, what were your loads and bullets of choice? How did it do?
I have a buddy that is going to use his this year and he wants me to work up a load. Unfortunately I do not have access to too many different bullets due to the Biden fiasco. I do have 150 Ballistic tips and 162 gr Hornady BTSP. Anyway thank you

I've or my wife have used Etips, VLDs, and Hornady ILs with zero fuss or issues...

PM Pharmseller.
He’s done a lot of work with that round. He and his family have bagged a number of elk with it.

Eld X, fan in the 162 variety. But have had great luck with the 140 accubonds and 150 scenar-L’s. Elk deer and bear. This year my boy will be running a newborn 7-08 for his first hunt. Hopefully that the 150 scenar is the best as I have a pile of them.

120 TTSX all day if your rifle likes it. If not, 120 Hunter Hammers.

The 139 IL has done fine for me on elk, so I’d be perfectly happy with either the 150 BT or 162 BTSP at 7-08 speeds.

I have some 140gr Partitions stashed away for my wife’s rifle… now we just need to get lucky enough to draw the dang tags!!!
Shooter’s Pro Shop has had them in stock at least a couple of times in the last 2-3 weeks.

120 TTSX all day if your rifle likes it. If not, 120 Hunter Hammers. Not elk, but I've taken a bull moose with the Barnes Vor-tx factory 120gr TTSX. Dropped my .308 before the day before the hunt, so took my wifes 7mm-08.

Either one of the two bullets you mentioned will work just fine.

I’ve killed elk, or seen elk killed, by 140 Partition, 140 AB, and 150 ELD-X. They all died about the same, pretty much right now.
All loads using Big Game powder, R-P brass, and WLRM primers.
From spitting distance to 400+ yards.
I think the 160-class of bullet is too slow out of the -08 but that’s just my opinion.
If you’d rather work up loads with these bullets let me know.

150 NBT - 32" of penetration on an old 6x6. Ran 25 yards and died.

Use any bullet or 150 grains or more in the styles of Partitions, Bonded or expanding solids and a 7-08 is just fine for elk hunting.

140 AB/partition is never a bad choice.
It is irrelevant what you think. What matters is the TRUTH.

My 708 has killed elk with a 120 BT mostly, with H4895, and once with a 140 TSX.
My brother/dad/wife use it whenever they get tags.
Last year it killed a cow elk and a muley.

I used HSM 140g factory loaded ammo with Berger bullets to kill my first Rocky Mountain bull elk. The bullet worked fine but did not pass through on the off-side. I shot just over the heart and the bullet fragments went took out an aorta enough so that the heart tugged free upon dressing. Bothe longs were also perforated.
I then switched to Hornady ammo with the 139(?)gn GMX bullet, and had full pass-through on both Rocky Mountain Elk, Columbia Whitetail Deer, Sitka Blacktail, and black bear using 7mm-08 and .308.

Point of the responses is don't fret the bullet choice. Fret the rest of the stuff elk hunting..
