I'm still a novice at bourbon, but over the past year or so I've developed a liking.
So far Buffalo Trace seems to be right at the edge of diminishing returns on the bang for buck scale.
I do believe its my favorite so far. Granted I havent tried any $$$$, but for $$ this stuff is, I think, excellent.
It also appears to be trendy, as a couple local stores say they can only get 6 bottles a month.
So yeah. I like it.
Quit giving in inch by inch then looking back to lament the mile behind ya and wonder how to preserve those few feet left in front of ya. They'll never stop until they're stopped. That's a fact.

If you like it, you like it. BT used to be a Campfire fave but has fallen from grace here somewhat. Personally for a bit less $, I like WT101. I think WT101 is a best buy. Bulleit may be slightly better but is significantly higher. I probably have a gallon of Turkey around here. Others are Old Crow (not kidding), Rebecca Creek (excellent), Bulleit, Blanton's, and a couple of high dollar ones I wanted to try but haven't popped the cork on yet and can't remember what they're called.

I find Buffalo Trace very smooth and easy sipping, almost too smooth for my tastes, but I think that is appealing to some people. I like something with a little more bite. More rye, but the mash bill may not tell the whole story. I am by no means an expert though.
Four Roses is another one that I find almost too smooth and boring. But Buffalo Trace has an almost perfume like quality to me. I don't find it disgusting, but it just reminds me of more of a liqueur than a bourbon.

There you have it, a horse for the course. I buy Ancient Age for just a bit over $9 at a local grocery store. It is literally on the bottom shelf. Nevertheless it's perfectly fine for bourbon and water, on the rocks even as I enjoy it often when I want something casual. Benchmark is a similar whiskey, but my buddy sells both and he likes the Benchmark supplier less.

Similar price range, you can try Knob Creek 9 year, Larceny, Old Grand Dad 114

All good options. For those in the Rocky Mountain West, I'd also suggest Old Elk (out of Ft Collins, CO). The gin is even better.

BT has a sour taste I don't care for. Bulleit is cheaper by a lot here.

BT used to be a good value for the money, but around here it now costs about as much as stuff that is quite a bit better. It's also always in short supply, so people are still buying it up.

Try Blantons...
I love Buffalo Trace...but I buy Blantons when I feel I need to reward myself.

Taste, as with beauty, is in the eye of the beholder, & to each his own, but to my taste, BT is raw & rough & the next thing to panther piss & I won't drink it, even at the risk of offending someone offering it to me. MM

Personally Im not a fan of BT, it has an almost almond finish to it and I hate almonds. Bulleit is my FAVORITE bourbon by far. Old Granddad gets a little hot on the finish to me.

If you can't find Blantons, get Elmer T Lee. Both are fantastic, both hard to find.

Unfortunately for us Elmer is no longer around to cherry pick the barrels for his namesake.
