I found what looks to be a Remington 700 BDL stainless synthetic 7mm-08 at a LGS. Based on the stock it looks to be a 1990s gun no J-lock. Are these of markedly better quality than the later SPS rifles in your opinion?

Smoother metal finish by far.

SPS finishes look like they were blasted with gravel, SS BDL had a nice smooth finish.

I may not be smart but I can lift heavy objects

I have a shotgun so I have no need for a 30-06.....

I prefer the BDL SS finish, but the SPS stock. My daughter’s SPS SS looks like a gravel blast would be an improvement. Rough! But it works fine and is tough.

You need to buy that rifle if you haven't already.

i am still thinking about it. I already have a Ruger Hawkeye all weather 7mm-08 that fits me very well. They are asking $599 for the Remington and it has quite a few scratches on the metal and stock.

If it’s the better finish, it can be buffed . Who cares about the stock . Is it scratches or metal is damaged?

Just scratches and would likely replace the stock anyway. May go back tomorrow and see if it is still there.

Still seems like a deal to me. Was the 7-08 common in the BDL SS?

I saw it as well in vestavia. I looked at it but since I have a kimber classic select that shoots great I passed. I think it’s priced high but mabye not in today’s market.

Yep that is the one. If it was $100 less would buy it without a second thought. Just don’t see if getting the nod over my stainless Ruger. Someone else can enjoy this one.

Well went back this afternoon and talked them down a little so it came home with me. Date code has DOM as 1994. Looks pretty well put together. Now have to wait at least a couple of weeks before I will be able to shoot it. Will report back on how it shoots.
