Looking for suggestions on hearing protection when hunting with a handgun .

for muffs i use howard leight impact sports. pretty comfortable for several hours at a time. less than 50 bucks.

I have some Walker electronics I wear at the range. Muffs would be ok but I have some of their ear buds too that would be good to hunt with.

I recently bought a pair of Axil ear buds complete with bluetooth so I can protect my ears and listen to music if I want to. They are very comfortable and work well.

The only downside with any electronics is you can’t tell which direction the sound is coming from but I can sure hear things I’d never hear with my ears alone.

Including the wind blowing...

Very true.

More like a gentle breeze that sounds like an incoming storm,

The more money you spend the softer the breeze is.

For hunting, I'm not wearing muffs all day for one shot.

I use something similar but was hoping there was something better.

Walker and Axil are the only brands I’ve tried. The cheaper Walker muffs pick up wind pretty bad sometimes. Their buds are not as bad but the Axils I have now are even better.

I just use mine at the range and during matches. I hunt without them but I wonder if those ear warmer head bands might muffle the wind out?

I use something like this when I am hunting. Just keep them around my neck and pop them on when the time comes.

That is a decent idea for the couple shots in the field. Can be put on quickly......altough that quick snap shot may be missed.

I tried a corded set of Walkers and not only was the clamping crappy, the cords themselves transmit all kinds of contact noise into my ears. Easy to see why they were on sale. The Howard Leight muffs work well at the range, even as straight muffs with dead batteries. I could use them from a stand. Might even try them in cold weather. Battery life is a bit short though.

For range work I use Howard Leight muffs and sometimes custom molded ears plugs, and depending on where I am an what I am shooting, sometimes I use both

For full ear muff types, using gel cups instead of the regular foam-based ones are the game changers for comfort and effectiveness because they simply seal with more conforming ability and are thus also more comfortable by spreading the load of compression more evenly.

I use the MSA Sordin Supreme Pro-X Neckband for EVERYTHING - weed whacking, mini-bikes, shooting, mowing.

They have speakers on both ears so one's stereoscopic hearing is not lost. The "neckband" means there is only thin, low-profile, adjustable fabric that goes over your head so I can easily wear it under a hood and it is soft, unobtrusive, and comfortable on my scalp.

It does have an AUX input jack and one can use a Bluetooth enabled jack if ones wants wireless:

The AUX input jack is great because one can connect it directly to a handhed FRS radio (typically non-Bluetooth still these days) for quiet comm when in a hide or up in a treestand.
