Looking for an older leather cheek rest made by Cabela. I bought one on eBay a month ago for my 99 Savage 303 and would like another for the Savage 22 High Power I just purchased a few weeks ago. If anyone knows where I could get another one please let me know. Thanks for your help and have a great 4th of July. HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMERICA!!

Cheek rest or comb riser? What I bought from Cabelas years ago was a leather lace on comb riser. And they discontinued it. Which was too bad. You might find something at Brownells.

You sir, are the reason Savage created the 99DL. Doesn't matter if the white gloves like it or not, Savage saw the need like yours and responded in kind. The DL is still my favorite hunting rifle. Probably have 2 dozen of them.

No mistake. But do check Brownwlls. I got one from them a few years ago. It doesn't look the the Cabalas comb riser but it does do the same job. And I found that something like an older EG with the comb riser does put your eye in a more comfortable place behind the scope. Especially if you use a Stith mount, which is about as low as scope mounts get.

Do a search for "comb riser for rifles" on Amazon. There are a bazillion offerings from cordura+velcro to retro leather ones. That, or just use a tang sight like God and Arthur Savage intended for those old rifles. grin

My 99H Carbine would benefit from having one and I have only a tang sight on it but, my EG is fine without one using the tang sight. I put a shorter front sight on the carbine but, the bottom half of the aperture was covered by the receiver ring.

I just saw another option that I wasn't aware of. A rear site with both windage adjustment and elevation adjustment combined. My preference would be to keep this 22 HP as an open site gun. But my current rear site doesn't allow for windage adjustment, only moving the entire dovetail site. Anyone know where I can find one of these adjustable rear sites? What are they called? Thank you for your input. I enjoyed reading your comments.

?? Lyman 30 1/2 tang sight is windage adjustable as is the rare Lyman 103. Modern Marbles tang sight is too I think but don't quote me. Pretty flimsy as I recall saying I wouldn't have one.

29 1/2 ain't a bad sight either, although I always preferred the 30 1/2 because the eye hole is threaded and will accommodate an aperture.

Good lord. I have several 30-1/2s and 29-1/2. The last 30-1/2 I bought was more expensive than I'd like, but it was unused, in the original box with instructions and screws. I paid 225$

Thanks for all your comments and help. I've made up my mind to have Mike make me another light foot mount and go with a Weaver k4. Much easier fix. Thanks anyway.

Compliments of my mid '60s service in the USN as best I recall. Learned a lotta new words there... wink

Use it in good health! grin
