Any one have a wind guage 15 rear sight for my 99 High Power? I'm thinking that might keep me in the open sight arena without having to put a scope on it. Thanks, WhipseY
Be aware that the No 15's have a very small sighting notch and the way they are designed there is very little metal under the notch so any attempt to widen or deepen it can cut through the siding part and into the fixed base make the windage unusable. I see a lot of these with the notch deepened and going through into the base. They also sit rather high and need a taller front sight than some of the other sights, probably another reason so many have been ruined by making the notch deeper. The elevators are specific to this sight and seem to be harder to find than the sights, I've seen just the elevators bring more than a sight without an elevator on eBay.
The early sights were stamped "PATENT APP'D FOR." and did not have the small curl over tabs on the top of the elevator (don't knw when that changed), later one had "PAT' OCT-13-1914."
Thanks folks. Very good info, much appreciated. I'll keep looking. Just for conversation, while sighting in the 22 high power, that I recently purchased, I had to tap from left to right on the rear buckhorn more than half way through the dovetail to hit my bullseye at 50 yards. Took it to a gunsmith and he said my barrel was shot and wanted to put a new barrel in the existing one after it was bored out. I told him I would keep looking for a different rearsight. What say you? WhipseY
