Because I never owned a camera until my first granddaughter came along and a decent digital became affordable. Momma with baby Michael, fall of '83, at 26 years. Standing in front of the rental we had for that first couple years. And six years later Michael and baby sister with pick of the litter of our colt crop that year. Out of three colts we picked the best for baby girl and sold the other two. But Michael did all the riding and training after I got the colt "Chance" started. Mike took the Chance to 4H when he was four and Mike was nine. They won lots of blue ribbons, and learned together. There were lots of friendly arguments between the kids as to which of them the horse actually belonged to. He was one of the top three horses we ever owned. The pics look like they should have been transferred to digital thirty years ago. Sorry about that. People who choose to brew up their own storms bitch loudest about the rain.

There was a picture posted on the cover of West Virginia magazine, that my mom had... from sometime in 2019 But it was a picture of a 13 year old kid holding the reins on a pair of mules, at a logging camp in 1919 or 1920. Turned out that picture was my grand father, when he had left home for his first job.
