Have 2 of those Remingtons in the family - they're pretty decent and do the job just fine.

Please make sure he doubles up on the hearing protection.

Nice gun, send the bolt off to accu-tig in fairbanks before hunting season.

Cut off the brake and you got one heck of a good rifle. If you don't cut it off make sure he wears really good ear protection as it will be LOUD!!

Yeah, I'd get a thread protector for sure. No brakes for me on hunting rifles.

My cousin got one of the early SS BDL 30-06 rifles that Remington put out in the first part of the 90's. He won't use anything else and has killed a lot of really good bucks over the last 25 years, near and far. All his needed was a trigger tweak and boxes of Federal Premium Gameking 165 ammo.

We shot it today wearing good ear protection. I'll probably spin the brake off before we go out again. It came with a thread protector anyways, so no big deal there. Was quite pleasant to shoot though.

Well, the 30.06 with 150gr Fusions did the trick. He wasn’t too picky after a couple days and decided he wanted to take this meat bull. 180yds kneeling using his shooting sticks. Dropped it like it got hit by a bolt of lightning.

That’s a fine rifle and you got a heck of a deal!

Looks like it did the trick. Congratulations to him and you.

Congrats on the meat bull and you stole that rifle! Heck of a deal for you and your son!

All of them do something better than the 30-06, but none of them do everything as well.

The only problem with that setup is that he'll never need another rifle.

Well done, both of you.

I wouldn’t cut the brake off but would replace it with a suppressor

It's just threaded on, so no big deal there. We wear hearing protection when we shoot, so even with it being there it's not a big deal. Keep them right around the neck so they're easy to put in. Generally speaking we have plenty of time to set up a shot. A suppressor would be nice if they weren't priced far higher than they should be, and dealing with getting a stamp. That whole process is BS.
