I am bumping 58 and have got them as long as I can remember. Same here. Never a time since ‘65 there wasn’t tarballs on the beach in Galveston.

The Taylor spill is ongoing, some estimates of 700 barrels daily. That’s a difficult one caused by a hurricane and a sub sea bottom mudslide that sheared some downhole casings. Mr. Taylor is the individual that initiated the TOPs program for Louisiana college students,,,,,free tuition paid for by Taylor Trust fund with matching funds from the state of Louisiana. As you say, that leak is ongoing but is far from being a disaster.

As a kid on the beach in NJ, we encountered that same black oily/tar stuff. Our folks told us it was spillage from tankers carrying heavy crude to refineries - such stuff was not likely to have been seeping up from the ocean floor.
