Just so this doesn't get buried.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/ottawa-border-measures-reopening-1.610798

9 Aug is the date that the border opens for fully vaccinated Americans. There you go, Richard!

Ottawa now says that — starting Aug. 9 at 12:01 a.m. ET. — fully vaccinated U.S. citizens and permanent residents living in that country will be able to visit Canada without having to quarantine for two weeks.

Adults entering will need to present proof (in either English or French) that they've received a complete round of one of the vaccines approved for use in Canada. That means two doses of either the Pfizer, Moderna or AstraZeneca products, or one dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, at least 14 days before arriving.

All travellers must use the government's ArriveCAN portal to submit their information. If they meet the government's criteria, they will not have to quarantine upon arrival in Canada.

Travellers will still need to get a COVID-19 molecular test result before they arrive in Canada.

According to Sgt Major Renfrew, COVID 19 originated on a sheep farm in Montana. We have to be careful.

Now I wonder if there will be a long wait at the bridge in International Falls?

I only know a few people who received the jab, I never, nor have my family. I only know several people who did, I think the statistics are bullschitt on how many have received it. I also don't know anyone from any large City that I communicate with on any regular basis. Pretty sure country types are in the not me group.

I wonder are Americans ascared of me not receiving the jab? I am not afraid of people who never got jabbed.

So we are welcoming vaccinated Americans who may very well be carrying covid because it has been shown, fully vaccinated people can carry the virus. We are all just being used as pawns in a political game. Some willingly, the rest not. GD

Everyone from Montana will be denied entry.

I wonder what the next thing will be for the know-it-alls to complain about? They cannot complain about COVID. According to the know-it-alls, COVID is no worse than a cold. The virus is a tempest in a teapot.

Did you find a place for the test?

You will have to let us know how much of a wait you had.

Steve, International Falls, fort Frances.

I'm lined up to go to a ballgame in Kansas City on the 18'th. It will have to be after that.

I got my test last April at a CVS Pharmacy in Minneapolis—Edina actually.
1st question—“Do You have insurance card?” Nope— guy says thats OK I need a name a birthdate and an address. I told him my address was Canada—Not today he says and writes down address of the Store.
I had to download an app to my phone and test results were there 2 days later—they notified me by email but I still had to go to the App to see results.
The border guard didn’t like the address on the test but I was honest with him about how I got a free test. He acted like he was doing me a big favour by letting it slide.

such a disingenuous individual. The deadly chinese delta variant killed thousands this week but your hero and racist black face part time art teacher says its all good now while he arrests those attending church services before their church are burned down by Canuck communists .

Exactly. None of it makes any sense. Ive spent the summer working for a road construction company and I talk to Americans traveling through Canada every single day who are not vaccinated. So our imbeciles in Ottawa are going to require American tourists to show proof of vaccination but "essential" traveler's wont need it! Hunters wth hunts booked this year are now finding it hard to book flights. Airlines dropped a lot offlights during the scamdemic especially into some of the smaller towns. And outfitters are finding out that a large percentage of American hunters are not as gullible as Canadians seem to be. Some are refusing to get vaccinated and forfeiting their hunts and deposits. My first hunt in Sept was canceled because of this. They are already talking about booster shots being required. They are going to find it very hard to convince many Americans to line up for that....what happens then??

I have said it before and I WILL say it again. It will be over when the politicians SAY it is over.

I have to be honest. BOTH my wife and I are vaccinated with the Pfizer vaccine. We did it ONLY because back in March I just knew it would be a requirement. Hunting on Anticosti it just THAT important for me because it is the greatest thrill I have to see her hunting and succeeding. Call me what you want.

Thank you, Paul. My wife and I cherish our time in Canada. It has been absolute HELL dealing with the absolute stupidity surrounding scamdemic.. Thanks again for the kind words.

All good Mate !!

Hoping all your plans come together, you get another wonderful trip & we get an excellent story.

Hunting should be great, after the lack of pressure.

The fishing, these past 2 seasons has been outstanding !

Everyone has the right to make the decision to get vaccinated for whatever reason they want. I agree with you thats its not over until the politicians say so. Science doesnt matter and hasnt since day one. We've been fielding more calls and emails than at any time I can remember. Tons of people wanting to go on trips and lots of questions about the vaccine requirements. Some have said they are going to wait and see if maybe that restriction is eventually lifted. Others like yourself have taken it, but are worried they will book and then they will require this booster shot they are talking about now. I dont know what to think or tell people about the vaccine requirement being lifted. Since the US is not requiring a vaccine to enter, part of me thinks Canada will eventually let the unvaccinated in. Depends on the election maybe. I believe the only reason they even announced they were opening the border is because an election is eminent. The loonies out in eastern Canada are going to vote them back in so they neednt worry. Hope your trip to Anticosti is the best yet!

Some of you really think we will spread Covid by traveling into Canada?

There is also a chance we could get it.

I wouldn't worry about it. No doubt, the negative Nellies will chime in spreading gloom and doom. Ignore them and be happy.

Yep. Biden will change it again too.
All the while he’s letting every damn Wetback that can swim cross the Southern Border.

Just goes to show what the POS thinks of Americans and Canadians. 😡

The chance of catching covid, in most places, is slim. Behavior plays a large part. I know of one family who invited another family over for dinner even though the other family had just gone to Disneyland and the mother had a cold. That, to me, is stupid behavior; unless you want to catch covid. I do know some people who have deliberately caught the virus to achieve a natural immunity. They were not especially ill and are now, presumably, immune to that strain; for now. GD

I agree. No matter what we think though, our world has changed forever. We have already been told that our camps will be inspected by the CEMA crews on a regular basis. It happened last year too and I knew then it wouldnt end. I had been working a big bull right near camp when the helcopter landed with the CEMA guys. I was 200 miles from the nearest town, and not happy to see them. I refused them entry into my cabins. The protocols we had agreed to operate under said no outsiders were allowed in camp. Im quite sure it wont be business as usual. They ran an add in the local paper recently looking to hire more CEMA officers. $46 an hour. Taxpayer money of course. Now the FN communities are livid. They are saying they weren't consulted on re-opening and lifting restrictions. They want the entire territory to stay locked down for the foreseeable future. I highly doubt that they are going to let American hunters into their communities. This is going to create some problems this fall without a doubt.

The bottom line is, less 1%, as in ONE percent of the total population will die from the China flu - Covid-19. You have to be either really unhealthy or highly unlucky to die from Covid-19. Common sense isn't very common anymore and people either can't or won't think for themselves anymore.

ANOTHER one that "gets it". People need to grow a set and do for themselves and think for themselves. When you do for yourself, the consequences, and benefits are yours and yours alone.

I was told the same thing, as was my wife. Our only issue with travel to the US has been the imposition of quarantine rules for returning Canadians (unless the travel is deemed essential). The truth is, the 49th parallel has absolutely nothing to do with the spread of covid. It is a political boundary. There is a steady stream of commercial traffic crossing the border and dozens of flights. Covid didn't drive across the border; it came into cities via international air travel and spread from there. It came from Wuhan, China and it was likely sent out on purpose. GD

Greydog, Yes lines drawn on a map. Birds fly back, and forth, the wind blows across the border, "essential people have contact with people on both sides.

Who know what can be in. and on parcels shipped?

greydog;
Good morning to you sir, I hope your part of the world is at least a wee bit less smoky than we are this morning once again and that you and yours had a decent week and are well.

Since I am of the belief that in the majority of instances "coincidences" aren't mathematically possible, I'd make the following observations regarding your statement that the beer flu was an intentional strike.

- The issues with the million plus protestors in Hong Kong disappeared over night.
- It didn't help Trump one bit and he was in my view a fairly large thorn in their side.
- It advanced the long term goal of China becoming the global economic power as far as it's effect on their economy
- It let a bunch of nations including Canada test how many restrictions they could place on their population without push back. Whomever wanted that social experiment done gets a gold star for Quebec and Alberta alone in my view.

That's the tip of the "coincidences" really and we could likely find way too many more if we had the time or inclination.

As I told a good friend of mine, if this isn't some "grand experiment" by "someone" to "see what happens" - well it's accomplished the very same thing as if it was, was my point, you know?

I wish you were wrong and I wish I was wrong as well, but as the lines of the Ian Tyson song go, "wishin' don't make it so".

All the best to you all regardless sir, let's hope for some rain.

Its looking more and more like the best evidence is that the virus did in fact come from the lab in Wuhan. Whether it was intentional or not remains to be seen. In my opinion it was very likely intentionally released. Trump was making life hard on the CCP. I've seen some of the evidence Mike Lindell the my pillow guy is going to release next month on the election, and while Im no technology guru the experts he has lined up say they have iron clad proof that China flipped the election. Mr Lindell has just announced that he will give anyone who can prove his data is fake or wrong 5-million dollars. He's certainly confident so it will be interesting to watch his three day symposium next month. Either way, China went all in to stop Trump.

Heavy smoke today; pretty gloomy.
Initially, I was willing to believe the virus was a trans-species jump but, even if that was the case, we knew about it and it should have remained a Chinese epidemic. The subsequent actions of the Chinese were just too consistent with a "let's see how the west reacts" scenario for me to believe this was not the case. Perhaps not orchestrated from the start but certainly an opportunity exploited. Can you imagine the effect if this was a truly deadly disease? We, in the west, failed miserably in our response. Our leaders, essentially, chose to punish their own people rather than to formulate real plans to deal with what was, in reality, a biological attack on our countries; intentional or not. I would not be a bit surprised to see the creation of a "Ministry of Truth" in either Canada or the US.
Not seeing a lot of rain in the forecast. If we don't get some pretty soon, our hunting season might be in jeopardy. GD

The longer youse guys are locked down the better, Canada is poised to slip down out of 10th place in the world GDP...Maybe that would give 'Sparkle Socks" his unemployment notice?

No. Liberals believe the economy will take care of itself. The liberal mind looks at Justin and his record and sees no flaw. The media will avoid any mention of any misstep and pounce on any possible chance to discredit the conservative side. The Canadian government is not making it easy.

Our daughter just did her best to upland our shot cards.

Not until 72 hours before we arrive.

You're in a better position than a couple of weeks ago. My thought is that they do not want people registering just for the sake of registering. I don't know why that would make a difference, given that the info is held on a computer. A human makes these decisions. Nevertheless, be happy!

There is hope. Know that you are safe and untroubled. Keep smiling, Richard.

And thou shalt be secure, because there is hope; yea, thou shalt dig about thee, and thou shalt take thy rest in safety. Job 11:18, OT

If I understand you, someone takes a swab and it must be sent away? Do the lab people not test at their facility? Is there an approximate turn around time?

I've been working all summer on a road construction crew and have talked to people every single day who are traveling through to AK or coming from there. For some, crossing the border has been an absolute nightmare, for others its been not to bad. Seems to depend on the customs agent they have to deal with. I think it will get easier once they open to tourists, but I would also caution you to expect delays, and realize that you WONT be welcome in many communities. The Kwalin Dun FN just had an article on the front page of the local paper and they are totally against opening the border or easing the restrictions locally. ( no masks, restaurants back to full capacity etc) Im sure they are getting heavily funded during the lockdowns so that might be the reason, but dont expect things to be normal because they wont. At least in some places.

Thanks Yukon, we have the cabin in Ontario, many old family friends, so I', not worried about that.

Our daughter in law is a nurse, she said they do the Covid test in the local hospital, and that would help a lot.

Using the link Steve provided, and answering the questions as I expected you would, looks like you are zooked still.

Find out if you can travel to Canada - Foreign national without symptoms - U.S. entry - Optional
You indicated that you are:

a foreign national
not showing signs and symptoms consistent with COVID-19
coming from the United States
travelling for an optional reason
You will not be allowed to enter Canada, even if you have tested negative for COVID-19 or have received a COVID-19 vaccine.

Richard—this was my experience and I know 2 other people who have traveled to the US. I went down the last week of April and had to quarentine for 2 weeks upon my arrival back in Canada. The hardest part about the whole ordeal was getting a PCR test in order to return home.

One of my buddies went down the first week in June—he too had to quarentine upon his return but my other buddy went down last week—he had to do a test upon returning home but that was no big deal and no restrictions has far quarentine goes. Both these guys are Treaty First Nations and I’m dual citizen so no problem getting into US.

I went to a CVS Pharmacy in Edina,MN my 2 buddies both went to Walgreens in Duluth. First question they ask for is an insurance card or number—I just told them I didn’t have one—no problem. Guy at the Pharmacy told me he needed a name birthdate and address. I told him I’m from Canada—he said write down the street address of the Pharmacy. Even though I was standing right there in the Pharmacy I still had to go on-line to make an appointment for the test—I had to wait about 20 minutes and then a girl watched me do the test and seal it in an envelope.. the envelopes are picked up each day and analyzed the next day. I got my results back by email almost exactly 48 hours after the swab.

My buddies had the same experience except one guys test came back inconclusive—didn’t have enough snot on it. He redid the test and the pharmacy got him new results in only 24 hours.

I showed up at the border with my test results but had not registered with ArriveCan—couldn’t figure out how to do that on my phone. Got registered by telephone —not a big deal

Good luck

It looks like customs wants us to spend over $300 so they can scan our phones, and save them two minutes of typing numbers in.

Had the Thousand Islander tourist boat from Canada come right by us in US waters while fishing today. Looked like most of the people if not all had diapers on their face.

It's a pressure tactic. 😜 They can walk 3 days before the border opens. The union knows what it's doing. 😄

He probably would forfeit all of his money or at least a deposit which I am sure is a very sizable sum.

Quelle surprise! The border guards struck a deal.

Border guards, Ottawa reach tentative deal days before travel restrictions ease
Deal comes after more than 36 hours of mediated talks, work-to-rule campaign
The Canadian Press · Posted: Aug 06, 2021 9:50 PM ET

Canada's border agents reached a new tentative agreement with the federal government late Friday after a daylong work-to-rule campaign left long lines of semi-trailers and passenger vehicles idling for hours at some of the country's busiest international gateways.

The deal — announced late Friday after more than 36 straight hours of mediated talks — came with just days to spare before U.S. citizens and permanent residents are expected to begin queuing up for their first chance to get into Canada since before the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Guards who work for the Canada Border Services Agency were part of the work-to-rule job action that began early Friday amid contract talks between the federal government and the Public Service Alliance of Canada's Customs and Immigration Union.

Members of the union, which represents some 9,000 CBSA employees, spent the day following procedures to the letter after a negotiation deadline was set for 6 a.m. ET Friday.

"We are relieved that CBSA and the government finally stepped up to address the most important issues for our members to avoid a prolonged labour dispute," Chris Aylward, national president of the Public Service Alliance of Canada, said in a statement.

Thank you. I was able to create an account using my email address and a password. That's all fine well and good. But that is just for me. My WIFE will also need an account, and the same email will be used. I need to know how to set her up because she will be crossing along with me.

Someone provided me a link to a list of covid tests that are accepted by the Arrive Canada folks. I printed it out and gave it to my wife to file. i am thinking it has been "mislaid" forever. I have tried to locate it within Arrive Canada. I have failed so far. Can anyone lend a hand and provide a link to the info. Thank you in advance.

The information on testing requirements is in the application. You fill out the form until you reach the information. I was at Anticosti in the first week of October. The ArriveCanada process was pretty easy less some system problems (Arrive Canada did not like Microsoft Edge of Firefox when I put my data into the system - this may have been corrected), When I arrived at the border my vaccine info was on the system and I showed them documentation of my test results (PCR test). The whole thing took 5 minutes. Just make sure you have everything done. As a just in case I brought additional paper copies of my documents.

The following is from the ArriveCanada website and identifies acceptable tests.

To qualify as a fully vaccinated traveller, you must also follow these requirements:
1. Get a pre-entry test (accepted types and timing)
Who must take a pre-entry test

All travellers 5 years of age or older, regardless of citizenship or vaccination status, must:

provide proof of a COVID-19 negative molecular test result to enter Canada OR
proof of a previous positive test result taken between 14 and 180 days.

Types of pre-entry test

Rapid antigen tests aren't accepted.

Accepted types of molecular tests

PCR - Polymerase chain reaction
Nucleic acid test (NAT) or Nucleic acid amplification test (NAATs)
Reverse transcription loop-mediated isothermal amplification (RT-LAMP)

These tests use methods such as a nasopharyngeal (NP) swab, nose swab, or saliva sample.
Other acceptable types of tests

RT-PCR – reverse transcription real time PCR
Quantitative PCR (qPCR)
Isothermal amplification
Droplet digital PCR or digital droplet PCR (ddPCR)
Transcription-mediated amplification (TMA)
RNA (Ribonucleic acid)
Ct (cycle threshold)
CRISPR
Sequencing
Next generational sequencing (NGS) or whole genome sequencing (WGS)
Oxford Nanopore sequencing (LamPORE)
Detection of the N gene
Detection of Orf1a/b
Detection of the S gene
Detection of the E gene
Detection of the RdRp gene

My wife and I took the jab only to get into Canada. We STILL need to be tested within 72 hours of crossing (attempting to cross) the border.

Just got back from a short hunting trip to Canada. Easy as could be. Yea, I got vaccinated. Went to Walgreens drug for a free drive through COVID test about 2 1/2 day before we planned to enter. Actually had my negative result emailed to me in an hour. It was a NAAT test so it met the Canada requirements. Did the ArriveCAN thing and entry was a breeze. We were at the border for about 15 min total, including time to go in with our firearms forms.

One other issue that COULD have been a problem: Canada reserves the right to do random testing at the border and force a 14 day quarantine if the test is later found to be positive. This would have been catastrophic for us, as several of us had firm dates for return to work or school. Does anyone know if this random testing is being done?

If you’d only been a wetback crossing the Southern Border you wouldn’t have needed any of that crap. 😜

Only downside of our trip was the bad drought on your prairie. All of the small potholes were dry. We could drive in places we usually throw decoys. Duck numbers were down at least 2/3. Please do your rain dance.

They are doing random tests on some American visitors. I would think if you test positive you would just return home. If you are an American citizen they can’t deny you entry back into USA no matter how sick you might be.
My landlord lives in Wisconsin and has attempted to cross the border 5 times in the last 2 months—- he was denied twice and that was because nobody at the border communicates very well with the Thunder Bay Health Unit. They can’t seem to agree on which paperwork is nessesary.

We had to enter our quarantine plan into ArriveCAN right down to the room we’d be in. I got the impression they’d be checking up on us. I wonder if leaving the country instead would cause problems for future trips. That solution would be far better than a 14 day quarantine.

Our entry was literally a breeze. The border officers were efficient and showed the same courtesy as always. I doubt we were delayed more than an additional 5 minutes for the COVID stuff. Of course we were prepared as well, and I think they appreciate that.

We got our tests done today, got all the Arrive Canada paperwork completed. We got our QR codes and printed them. Now all we have to do is wait for the test results.

I am needing to deliver a Labrador Retriever to a friend in Alberta. He has told me of an unmanned unpaved road we can meet on at the border. What would stop someone like me from driving on in?

Any idea on how Canada handles sneak ins from the USA? If I decide to come on in uninvited I believe I'll come in my 2005 Toyota with almost 300,000 on it. That's miles not KMs. In case they hold the truck hostage.

The US has the border monitored, the whole thing from what I understand. . Then they share the information .It is possible to met at a border crossing, they were doing that at the Peace Arch on the Washington BC border.

Mission accomplished. Covered my license plate and went 50 miles in. Got back out 3 hours later unscathed. Whew.

Can you give the text of that statute? Are you saying it is a crime for Canada or the U.S.? Now I'm scared. Stevie may get after me.

Both, look up Entry without inspection. I live in a border community. It is on the signage.

Maybe the time limit on the charge will expire while they get straight with all the Latin Americans and Haitians that have been rushing the Mexico border. Canada wants more paper on the dog than a human. I was told he would have to be neutered, vaccinated, and quarantined. They didn't say I would be neutered but you never know.

Lolol…you and I think alike. 👍

I’d be terrified of getting caught after the fact and without proof 😂…..we know how seriously our government takes the border situation. I’m sure some ultra vaxxed, triple boostered mounties are the biggest threat to an American citizen on US soil…tff.

The righteous indignation of those throwing around statutes makes it super scary. 😂😂😂

It is all fun and games until caught. Around here the camera systems will get you not to mention your phone. In the east. EWI is very risky and expensive.
Not something to bragg aboat.

I was careful, have a flip phone, turned it off, smeared mud all over my license plate, wore a hoodie like the looters do. Maybe they won't extradite me. Canada's big cities are awash in illegal dope that got across several borders. Maybe they won't worry too much about a hunting dog.

What is the latest on unvaccinated U.S. Americans crossing through Canada in route to Alaska?

The border is fully open.

I haven't had any of the vax's. I drove across the border into Alberta last September for a moose hunt.

Going in Canadian Customs were only interested in checking the serial number of my rifle and collecting the $25 fee.

Coming home US Customs were only interested in me filling out their paperwork for bringing the moose meat home.

That is good news. So for $25 I can bring a bolt action .30-06 rifle with me? I wouldn't dare chance an AR or a handgun.

An AR used to not be a problem.

But I'd have all the papers filled out etc. ahead of time.

Its a shame that Longbeardking felt the need to get a shot just to shoot a deer. That just is wrong all the way around and I'd have never done it. But each to their own.

Sounds like some of the game wardens I once knew.
What crossing do you use?

Canada has a new list of firearms that cannot be brought into their country. ARs and handguns are on that list.

Latest trick by the canuck side is to hand back all of your five assorted family IDs (passport, 3 birth certs, enhanced DL) except one. They kept my wife's enhanced drivers license during a dinner visit. After turning the van upside down we went into the port of entry from the canadian side and got an "Oh, sorey eh? Here you go." from them.

Next trip, maybe a week later, I checked through what was handed back and they'd failed to hand back the same ID...my wife's. Got that one back before leaving the booth.
