Are the full of worms? We would seal them in a small ziplock bag for a few hours and worms would pour out of them.

Naw, I have never seen worms. We don't get huckleberries around here like they do over in the south eastern part of the province, they are exellent, bears like them too and are never very far away.

Huckleberries are ripe in Western WA, but they are red.

The good ones taste like blueberries on steroids, so good you will never eat a blueberry again without wishing it was a wild huckleberry from timberline in southern BC or Idaho. East of the Cascades across into Montana grow mighty fine huckberries.

The hucks in Oklahoma seemed kind of dried up the one time I ate some picked there. The hucks on the coast simply do not have as much flavor as inland berries, and have lots more worms. The huckleberries we picked for years in south central B.C. had few worms and you can tell which berry has a worm in it once you learn "worm sign". We just skipped picking those berries or discarded them as we cleaned them.

I picked the small wild Cascade blackberries today on the Penninsula. Red huckleberries, which I don't care much for, blackcaps and thimbleberries also ripe right now.
