I have all the usual suspects for powder on hand. I have 180 gr nosler sporting handgun 180 gr gold dot and 180 gr xtp. Data really varies and most of it seems rather mild. Potential guns to use the ammo are a glock 40 with KKM barrel, XDM, SR1911. All have a fully supported chamber so not worried about running hot also have yet to have any 10 mm recoil bother me.

So looking for some tried and true loads that use the full potential of the 10mm and these particular bullets. Probable won't use the sporting handgun for anything other than targets. The other two I want to be capable of any sane application of bullet and cartridge.

Longshot, Blue Dot, No.9, Silhouette, others of similar burn rate.

Hopefully by "full potential" you don't mean you want to make it a .41 magnum.

Not looking to turn it in to a 41. Just some data is barely 100 fps over the 40 s+w. I need a bigger gun I got 44s and 480s.

I was running Longshot and 180 XTPs. Also 200 grain bullets appear interesting but no experience loading those.

Blue dot is superb with 180s for me, Longshot is my 200 gr load.

I’ve also used Blue Dot. But if I recall correctly the MFG put out some type of warning recommendation to not use Blue Dot in loading 10mm.
At least I’m fairly sure it was Blue Dot MFG that put out that warning. Could be wrong, though. 😬

Let us know if you can confirm that about not using Blue Dot. I've been using 10 gr of Blue Dot behind the 180 XTP. I've shot 100-200 of those with no issue as yet. The Alliant website is showing a max charge of 11 gr with the 180 gr Speer GDHP.

Using 180 Grain HAP, 13.8 Grains A#9, CCI large pistol primer, 1.26 OAL 1269 FPS, STD Dev 8 FPS. 5 Inch barrel 1911 pistol. Hornady manual lists maximum charge of A#9 to be 14.9 grains. I was seeing velocities way above book at that charge, then learned Hornady now warns to not exceed 14.2 Grains of A#9. 1270 FPS is plenty for me.

Maybe it was with the 41 Magnum. It was one of those two calibers. Now I can’t remember which one. It was at least 10 years ago or more. I used Blue Dot quite a bit for 9mm also.
Never had any problems with it.

I've used Blue Dot for years with no issues. My most recent data from this year: 10.7 Grains Blue Dot, 180 Grain HAP, 1.26 OAL, CCI Large Pistol Primer, 1267 FPS . Primers were pretty flat. I didn't go beyond 10.7 grains due to the flat primers.

My favorite 10mm load is 10 grain of BD behind a 180 grain bullet. I have shot hundreds if not thousands and never had an issue.

Had a lot of success in my G40 6” with 13.5 grs of Accurate No. 9 and the 180 XTP. Shoots accurately hammers deer pretty dang hard too.

Longshot will get you mid 1200's for 180 grains, and mid 1100's for 200's, without strain. That is with a stock Glock 20 barrel. With my 6" KKM; add 75-125 fps depending on the load. The longer barrel wakes it up.

9.2grs of Longshot and the 180 xtp is great from mine.

IIRC for a short while they said don't use it in any handgun, then they amended the warning to include only .41 magnum and 125 gr .357's. Don't recall why.

Not my personal favorite for 10mm, but it works, I have some 215 gr cast loaded with it now.

I was using a lot of Blue Dot in the 41 at the time the warning came out.

I still have a few rounds loaded with a 210 over a medium speed load of Blue Dot.

I appreciate the thoughts on the 10mm. I have a new (to me) 1911 to start loading for.

There are 500 new Starline cases with Rem primers waiting on a set of dies. (mid August) I am going to start with Universal and 180 gr Berry's FP, until I get the Universal used up. Then there is a couple pounds each of HS-6 and Titegroup. But I think the Titegroup is better suited to the nine mm, (I am loading for grown kids)

Glad someone cleared that up. I couldn’t remember for sure if it was 10mm or 41 magnum that Blue Dot gave the warning on. Like I said before, I’ve used it in both. Never had any problems.

I am loading 12.2grs of AA#9 under a 200gr badman hard cast, in new Starline brass. They are running right about 1200fps.
Accuracy is excellent in my G20sf and after market KKM stock length bbl.
Start at 11.6grs and work up using a chronograph.

Longshot in new Starline brass under 140gr Lehigh Penatrators and 200gr XTP's, 140's run 1550, 200's go a very easy 1200 fps.

I agree about Titegroup. I like it for 9mm and 380 practice loads, but wouldn't care to use it in the 10. In the late '80s when we were shooting a lot of 10mm we had great success with Accurate No's 5 & 7, but No. 2 (similar burn rate to TG) just seemed to be too fast. These were all the original Accurate powders, not quite the same as today's.

Finally getting around to loading. Curious about this load I can't find any published data over about 8 grains of longshot. Wonder if this is a bit hot?

8.2 grains of Longshot is the max for a 200 grain bullet, per my newest Hodgdon annual.

I load that with 200 grain gold dots with good results.

I use BD in cast 220 gr loads with no issues so far in a Glock 20 and Springfield XDM 10MM for practice Buffalo Bore load I carry in Alaska

What load manual did you get that from?

And yet, Alliant currently lists BlueDot for 110 and 140 grain bullets. Lots of speculation about this 13-year-old “warning”, while thousands of folks have used the powder for 125-grain loads…..

Various readings on websites, as to starting point, than just worked it up in my gun, watching for pressure signs, ie smiles on brass, flattening of primers, going to keep reloading the same 30 pieces of brass, so I can see how long they will last

I have overloaded the 10mm with many powders in work ups.... until the brass failed.

If you read the published data, you might think LONGSHOT is going to produce a lot of velocity.
But real testing shows it is a dead end.

The most power I can get is from 800X.
But this takes many steps to compress the flakes in the case.

The most power that is easy is with Power Pistol.....Not longshot, not Blue Dot, not Enforcer , not AA#9, not N105, not 3N37,

What do you consider max load or velocity (whichever you are comfortable quoting) with Longshot and a 180 XTP or 200 gr cast?

Same question with Power Pistol?

LOL! i shoot a Dan Wesson 5" 1911 10mm, just yesterday i loaded 200gr Hardcast bullets to 1256 fps over 8.5gr Longshot, 22 bhn alloy, 0.300" meplat, H-Tek coated, run like greased glass with 1.240" col, 8.5gr Longsot also gives 1241 fps with 200gr XTP's, if i needed a 41 Magnum i'd buy one, i think these loads are absolute safe max power in the 10mm 1911 platform, and more accurate than i'll ever be.

That is about what I expect from Longshot. But I have not passed 1100 yet. And yes, I own several 41 mags.

You bet I.S. i'll be interested to see what numbers Clark puts up, i'm happy as a hog knee deep in corn chops right where i'm at.
