The book was great. Haven't seen the movie. I didn't know there was a movie but I should know by now that Hollywood will ruin every good book written.

No, the movie is great. You just missed it by 39 years. I bought it on DVD. Very well done movie, actually it was a tv miniseries. The show is 14 hours long. Filmed entirely in Japan.
