Besides the obvious of just letting the battery die..

I can't get mine to shut off. I plugged into my 'puter to charge it and now I can't get it to turn off, play, change a song etc.

Any thoughts??

hahahaha...

Ok

1) To shut it off -

Push the disk part of the controll pad at the bottom and hold it for 3-6 seconds and it will power down.

2) To "reset" the software

Push both the top of the dial and the center "select" button for 6 seconds - until you see the apple logo appear.

Make sure the switch at the top is not showing red, this will lock you up.

Happens all the time, should not be able to see any red on top of the ipod.

That hold switch was cool to find. Mine kept changing volume when I put it in my pocket until my wife showed me that switch.

It wouldn't shut off even with those suggestions. Battery just finally died and we'll have to see what happens after the recharge

Hi Elf,

That recently happened to my oldest boy's iPod and the reset trick worked just fine. This was the website on Apple that we found the reset info.

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61705

Give that a shot & see if it works. If not there's also a troubleshooting basics link down further on that page.

Sorry Kid I was back east for my son's wedding from the 15th until the 22nd. Hope you pass through town again sometime and we get a chance to catch up with each other.
