This powder is amazing! 68 grains behind the 180 TTSX from a 28" barrel 3231 FPS
With the 225 grain Accubond I worked up to 66 grains with F215 primers for 2969 FPS
Case head expansion is the same as the factory loads. I pulled some bullets and replaced the powder to get an accurate case head measurement comparison.
We have a "Primitive weapon season" here in LA that allows an extra 3 weeks of deer season. To qualify one must use a si gle shot exposed hammer. 35 caliber or larger. I'm not cutting the barrel as it is no longer than a 24" bolt rifle

Man, not too much need for a 338 with numbers like that John. Gosh darn that 28” barrel doesn’t hurt anything at all.

Don't think you'll find many shooters with 28" barrels nor many seeking those kind of velocities in .35 Whelen.

nor many seeking those kind of velocities in .35 Whelen. That's an interesting concept that you believe that 35 Whelen users are against flatter trajectory. Didn't know there was a group that preferred more drop

Your mindset is what's doing the hinting, the .35 Whelen is perfectly capable of what it was designed for without 28" barrels or your kind of velocities. I've been shooting, hunting with and reloading for a Whelen for more than 35 years, have lots of practical field experience with the cartridge.

The 1885 is sold with 28" barrel, New powders are changing the rules. I can kill deer with a 45 ACP, I know I've down it. No down side to more speed to flatten trajectory. None

Damn, that's a hammer. I know Brinky72 was getting 2700 fps with the 250 Speer and Power Pro 2000MR with I think a 23" barrel. The Whelen just keeps getting better....

A game animal (deer) isn't any deader shot with a round out of a 28" barrel going 2900-3000 fps. Loaded the way I load is easier on the shoulder, barrel life, the wallet, etc. a win-win-win ! Carry on , do as you please if that's what floats your boat.

Lol. I wouldn't consider myself most Whelen owners but I believe it's certainly more capable than what it was designed for. Certainly not just a short range brush buster. The two that I own are designed for different purposes. The Mauser action is to be hunted with using normal Whelen heavies 225/250s. The Win 70 has a 25" heavy barrel and was built for shooting targets. I wouldn't call that typical but it'll shoot sub-moa even with cheap Hornady bullets. Capable cartridge to begin with but it's fun to experiment with newer bullet designs and powders.

Nice, not a damn thing wrong with getting out of Orville Wrights aircraft and onto an A380 airbus for a flight across the salt pond, technology is not always a bad thing.
